Hi all back after a very long break, I have MMF 1.5 at the moment and i am thinking about upgrading to a new program.

Should I use Gamemaker 7 ( friend said its great for making games ) or should I buy MMF2 or is there a 3rd option hehe

thanks for any advice, MMF2 costs a load more than GM7 so was wondering is it really worth the money ?

There isn't much of a jump between mmf1.5 and mmf2 but only because of mmf1.5's many extensions.
mmf2 will get better.

when more extensions get converted to MMF2, it will be definantly worth getting over mmf1.5

developer just has more extension support

plus this:

Royalty free, logo and credit free - (no commercial runtime agreement required)

Ability/rights to change the version information of the EXE files

Ability to build MDI applications

Ability to dock sub-applications

Ability to create frames without display surface (to save memory for frames that contains only controls and child windows)

Also note that next year, there IS a similar app coming out called Construct ( http://www.scirra.com ), which is being designed by Tigerworks, Herb and a few other ex-extension developers.

So you may choose to wait and use 1.5 for a little longer, or get MMF2 now and maybe get Construct once it's had a year to mature. Construct's Lite version may be as cheap as £45 though.

It's still in development, but a public beta's coming out in the Summer (roughly September time I think they suggested).

Especially once you get the latest builds and patches, 2 has some nice advances on 1.5.

Immediate conditions are coloured to distinguish them from standard conditions. So you know which events are going to be run the moment they're triggered (like clicking a button, or the triggers to fastloops) and which ones wait to be cycled in the event list (Always, object overlaps, etc).

And the latest build has OR conditions as well, so you can perform some more event logic. Hopefully future builds will feature stuff like while and else too.

does MMF have If Then Else (IF) loop support?

If not, they should make that for one of the next builds.

Just be warned that you aren't likely to get an unbiased GM vs. MMF opinion here.

That said, if you already have MMF1.5 there's not really much reason to pay for MMF2 unless there's a particular feature you need. MMF2 does have a few interface improvements (and a very few functional improvements, such as scaling/rotation and layers), but there's not much you can do in MMF2 that you can't in MMF1.5.

I should mention that I have fuck all experience with Gamemaker, but I know it is fairly popular, so my (uneducated) recommendation is that if you're going to spend the money on one or another and you already have MMF you might as well get GM7, especially due to the price and also the simple fact that you'll have more options if you have both products.

Well I hope I didnt make a mistake paying 230 quid for MMF2!

Even more so when my coding is so bad a 4 year old could most likey code better hehe.

But I need a new hobby and the few weeks I had with MMF1.5 4 years ago or so was fun,( computer was stolen ) I thought I would try mt hand at learning to code again. Something about trying to make games which just seems fun for me.

Only thing that worries me alittle it seems not many people are using MMF2 and the forums are so much more quiet than the gamemaker7 ones, as I was hoping to learn from other people and maybe even make a few friends along the way.... pffft a few enemies would even be better than surfing a dead forum lol!

Just been trying to code a few simple things in MMF2 today and hehe I am such a noob, seems sooooo hard, hopefully with alittle help from the click community I can get the coding done.

Just one question if I may, should I code everything myself or is it exceptable to use other peoples coding, for example platform engines so that I can get down to the game design ?

MMF2 Developer is generally for people who intend to sell their games.
