I was just wondering what the average processor is these days? My upcoming game is quite graphically intensive, and as MMF doesn't support hardware acceleration, the processor has a lot to do. It seems to run smoothly on a 3ghz standard processor (Pentium 4 or AMD equivalent) and smoothly on pretty much any Core 2 Duo (or AMD equivalent). 2.5ghz Pentium 4 is playable, but doesn't run at the max frame rate. It drops it to about 20 out of a maximum of 30 frames a second.
What processors do you guys have? And what do you think the average computer user has?
Vista doesn't seem to affect performance at all.
My old computer was 3.2ghz pentium 4 and ran my game at 26-30 frames a second
My new compuiter is 2.5ghz core 2 duo and runs the game at a constant 30 frames a second.
When i put the max frames a second up to 1000, the core 2 duo can run it at whopping 300 frames a second, my old pentium 4 couldnt get above 50.
well, im only basing that on the back of newer commercial games cases. They always seem to have higher requirements for vista users. Like command and conquer 3
(xp machines requires 2.0ghz processor vista requires 2.2ghz processor)
Well there is three quality settings, but putting it on the lowest removes weather effects and day/night transitions, which really take away the atmosphere from the game. I've tried optimizing what i've got, but the best i can do is literally take it away with some options.
On the same computer, i upgraded because my uni were doing free software downloads.
That was on a Pentium 4 3.2ghz, 1gb of pretty slow ram. Vista is faster for games and general computer use.
I use an ancient IBM Thinkpad 233mhz Laptop. It's great for travelling - very small, has wireless, and it's absolutely indestructible (it's even made of metal, not all plasticky like modern laptops), plus I don't really care if it does get lost (no-ones gonna bother to steal). What more could you ask for?
I actually store just about everything on my mp3 player - its harddisk is about 10 times the size of the laptops
