For keyboard only games, The arrow keys of course.
For Mouse and Keyboard games the arrow keys aren't comfortable, so WASD is the perfect solution in this case.
The main problem with setting ZXC in games is that for german players (or anyone with a german keyboard), the Z and Y keys are switched around, so it makes it rather annoying to use without changing key mappings
Personally I tend to use WASD for gaming, no idea why, used to use arrow keys more often but I sorta switched over after I started playing WoW, probably because the spell bar mappings are on the numeric keys by default
I almost always use the space bar for attacking, and the shift for jumping (if there is any jumping to speak of.) I read about that whole foreign keyboard thing where the Z and X are far apart so I never used that combo.
Of course, what I really need to do is have a customizable setup to avoid any future problems I can't predict.

DXF Games, coming next: Hasslevania 2- This Space for Rent!
For keyboard games, I use the arrow keys and ZXASQW for buttons (SNES emulator style)
For mouse+keyboard games, I use WASD like LIJI said.
Also it's usually a good idea to let people change the controls in your games, so German QWERTZ layouts can play fine as well.

WASD for keyboard+mouse games.
Shift and control are fine for keyboard games. I also use combinations of ctrl, alt and space (Apogee style), and AS is fine too (WADF/Knytt style).
