If you can't get anyone to help you maybe I can make you some MIDIs. All I'd really need are screenshots of each area or section of your game for the inspiration and an idea of what you're looking for instrument-wise.

For games, you might want to get more into modules. Try learning how to use ModPlug Tracker, or even FamiTracker.

Putting up some demo work is the best way to get started as a musician here. Also, it seems that clickers finally moved on to modules. I'd try looking into Modplug tracker, if I were you.

Streaming media is even better. Looking for something professional?

Also, check out the free music from Klik games I've done in the past.

You can always just render your MIDI files using Soundfonts and such! I hate writing MOD's. To me, it's turning music into "paint by numbers." You don't get the flexibility of MIDI. I can write a song that's in multiple time signatures at once with MIDI (one voice in 4/4, another in 5/8, etc.).

As a composer myself, I encourage you to keep writing MIDI's, just for the fun of it.

You can write a song in multiple time signatures in modules, if you know how to. One of my early songs used a 7/4 time signature...

MIDIs are better if you're recording straight from a MIDI keyboard, which I haven't really been able to do (haven't gotten myself an USB>MIDI plug yet).

I know you can change the time signature on a MOD, but you can't have simultaneous time signatures, which is a pretty advanced 20th century compositional technique. It can make a very disjointed feel, with five loops of voice A taking the same amount of time as four loops of voice B or whatnot.

Even that's possible, but it requires some math to check how many rows you'll need. In any case, for those techniques modules are less fit, yeah.

I mean, I have no problem with the way MOD's sound, but writing them is so unnecessarily complex and mathematical. You're better off writing everything you want into the MIDI, importing it into ModPlug, and tweaking.

Oh my. Discussion for me.

I really have to disagree with importing MIDIs into Modplug. It's not a very well implemented feature, and you just don't get the control you might want.

Tracking modules certainly isn't for everyone. While I have a certain love for composing via MIDI (yes, there is SO much more you can do) through my keyboard, I can't really stand the general midi format. Too restricting, but you can still pull some cool stuff off. The same can be said with modules. In fact, there are many things you can do with modules that you simply can't do through MIDI. For one, seeing things laid out vertically and in plain text really opens your mind and can help you write lines you may not have written on your MIDI keyboard or on a piano roll. It's very interesting what things you can do. If you know how to make Modules sound good, they will take you a long way. Right now, in the mobile and handheld gaming world, modules are a very big thing. Now, with MIDI, I like to jack up a few of my professional samples (East West, etc) and really ride the wind (:

You do, at a point, grow out of tracking, however, and need the expansion that MIDI provides. I find that my MIDI keyboard really helps when I track modules now, especially with Modplug's MIDI input feature. It's very helpful when I need to track for games (which I still get hired to do, quite frequently. It's surprising how many PC independent/casual games are still using modules).

My only suggestion is to avoid generalizations about either format, because they both can do really great things. I remember tracking opened a lot of doors for me, but MIDI is what's driving me now. (And if you can do both (cough cough RENOISE cough cough) then even better!)
