I'd get a maxed out 24" iMac. I'd recommend a home built PC, Core2Quad are very powerful chips and the 8800 seems to be a very popular graphics card (most popular amongst HL2: Episode 2 users). Such a machine would run Crysis at medium settings whilst still being affordable. 2gb ram seems to be a running figure and also pretty cheap. Dell are the top dog with monitors.
Top that off with a Microsoft Habu mouse and it's all good.
Oh and if you plan on playing games be sure to avoid Vista. You'll want that 5-10% performance hit back. Edited by the Author.

I got the GeForce 8800 GTS and it's just awesome. GTX is the better more expensive version.
Core 2 Duo too, Quad isn't really necessary, but hey if you have infinate money
If you're going for a widescreen monitor, make sure it's HD resolution (1920x1080)
