My computer has somehow been infested by this company called rightonadz, which has installed things on my computer that open it up to be totally raped by popups among other things. I also get these message boxes offering to scan my computer for virus (yeah right), and sometimes i get this thing where the "download complete" windows sound plays spontaniously every 2 or 3 seconds.
Has anyone got any idea how i could get rid of this crap off my PC? I've done full system scans using symantec, adaware, spybot S&D, and super anti-spyware, and whilst they tend to get rid of most of the ads, there are some trojans or something hidden somewhere that just download it all back again.

In the past when I used to get viruses as bad as that, I'd just back up any important files (MMF projects etc) and then format the HDD. A bummer I know but it works.
I'd also recommend you install some variety of antivirus. Also keep away from adult sites.
But erm yes. I'm sure someone else here who knows way more about computers will come up with a better suggestion - Give it a few minutes.
i had a major problem once that wouldn't go away. With popups telling me to download virus scanners because i was infected every 3 seconds + random porn pop ups even when i wasn't connected to the internet.
I think i found a specialized program just for these cases.
Nasty one, that. It would pop up at any time it liked after boot up and tell me it was going to shut down my PC after a breif count down for no valid reason.
Yep. Most decent anti-spyware program suits will rid of that. I've always liked AVG Anti-Virus... because it doesn't ENSLAVE your pc, like Symantec and McAfee seem to.
Cheers for all your suggestions guys, I'm afraid a format is out of the question, I'm in mid termtime at uni and there just isn't time and I need my PC to work on. I can suppress the ads by scanning every now and then but there are some that keep coming back.
I do use IE7, but thats because I've never really got on with firefox or opera. On my PC firefox is a snail for loading pictures for some reason. Does firefox have superior pop up blocking and the like?
The thing that is really bugging me is this one where the download complete sound keeps playing for no reason. It seems to start usually when i have itunes running. Anyway, thanks again and I'll have a look at Nod32

firefox runs about the same speed for me as IE, but blocks all the bad things without any of the good. Never ever get popups. Just don't believe people who say firefox is more stable; I get an unholy amount of crashes in it, but no more then I ever got in IE

Firefox 2 seems to be slow for low ended computers. I'd say you should try Firefox 3 beta (They fix over 300 memory leaks!) or Opera.
But yes, IE is a virus and spyware magnet, don't use it.
