Seriously, how do you guys capture video from click games? Fraps obviously won't work with TGF, and while I can record the video with microsoft's encoder dealie, I can't capture audio alongside it. Is there some program that is apt in tune with click games and can capture both video and sound, or is making a trailer going to be *very* difficult? :/
I'm using that Camstudio thing now it's free, recording the audio through SPdif-out and SPdif-in. My soundcard doesn't appear to record it's output so this is the best way to do it lag free.
I use Camstudio 3 and a male to male 2.5 adio cable to plug my output into my input. I can't remember if I have to mix the two together or not; been a while since I've recorded a trailer or anything.
Thats for the advice; that snagit seems to work very nice. I found my problem to be my soundcard- Sigmatel Audio, has absolutely no builtin support for sound capturing. So its effectively impossible without finding spiffy new drivers for it that help that sort of thing, which is exactly what I went and got. A 95 megabyte set of drivers...
All of those recorders are very good, but if you use Windows Vista by any chance, I would give Fraps a try out. You will get much better framerates and performance when you're recording the game. Don't bother trying on Windows XP or lower though, because Fraps needs DirectX or OpenGL to record, and it's because of Vista that it has that for MMF games.
Useful for some things, but I think as for capturing, I'd prefer having my frames each in an image, so I can compile them how I want using something else. Even MMF2 has the ability to compile many images into an animation as long as they are numbered. (ex: image001.jpg, image002.jpg, image003.jpg, etc)
If you wanted to use an extension like that for recording uses though, you'll also want to consider recording sound. Camtasia Studio, SnagIt, and Fraps all record sound.
