When a certain event occurs, I'd like a timer to start. Then when the timer is equivalent to such and such a number, it resets and stops. How could I erm... Do this?

I'm struggling to understand if this is a serious question.
When the event occurs, set the counter to 1.
When the counter is greater than 0, add 1 to the counter.
When the counter is equal to the amount you want, set it back to 0 and perform whatever other action you like.
Is that what you mean?
