In working with my current project, I am at the music part of development.
I tried to manipulate the MCI object to play mp3's, however it will not function. When I run the level as I have it, I'm given an error as such:
"The specified device is not open or is not recognized by MCI."
The device being used is "mciqtz.drv". However, I went and double-checked all my registries and also went ahead to try other filenames such as "mciqtz32.drv" and the obviously-will-not-work name "kcmci.drv" (Just in case).
I'm led to believe that there's something wrong with my MCI drivers. Does anyone here know the correct specifications for TGF2 MCI usage and what needs to be in my computer to make it function?
Thanks in advance!

Well it definitely couldn't hurt to give it a shot! I've been doing my best here to fix the problem, and from what I could figure, the name of the device used in TGF2 is different than that in TGF1. I noticed that putting "MPEGVideo" in the device name slot allows it to play, but still kicks back just as many errors afterwards. By deactivating the checkbox that shows all errors, the errors don't come up, but I'm still suspicious that they're unfixed and just hidden. I might have to play around with this some more until I get it down pat. But yeah. William, I'd like to try your mp3 player to see if I can figure out what's all going on. If it helps at all, your name will go into my game's credits. Sound good?

it seems most of your problems are coming from the device name you are using. use the name "winamp".
i stripped the player to the basic stuff needed to play an mp3 (it plays other formats as well, like midi's).
type the name of the song along with the .mp3 extension and hit the play button.
the song has to be in the same folder as the app.

William, I just gave your program a try, and it worked without any flaws whatsoever. Seeing as "winamp" also works in the device name textbox, I'm wondering what devices are all possible for successful playback...
I did notice that you also have the "Display all error messages" box unchecked. I tried the program with it checked, and it flooded my screen with error popups. I think maybe the MCI object is best handled when the error messages are simply ignored.
Either way, it did help a little bit, so to William: your name will be in my game's credits for the effort! I'll keep toying around with the MCI object to see if I can get it to work 100% flawlessly.
