Hello all,

Well for the past week i've been converting my "The Simpsons" 4 player arcade machines into a 2player Mame cab. Its still early days in the project but its shaping up pretty quickly. So I decided i'd try somthing different to the 20 plus game emulators installed.

So I downloaded Noitu love 2, and thats when it all started..

Image
Image
Image

It looked stunning and playing it with real arcade controls just felt right.

I moved on to an old game of mine (check my profile) "Jesus The Arcade Game", while it was buggy, it looked great on the machine.

Image
Image
Image
Image

Then I thought i'd play the great classic, Eternal Daughter.

Image
Image

So there you have it, a different way to play Klik games.

PS. sorry for the poor picture quality, still getting used to this new cam.

Don't worry, the actual game PCB can be played in my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4 player arcade machine, along with any other PCB's i've aquired over the years. Failing that its on the mame emulator anyway.

I've had the Simpsons machine for many years now, but it was time for a change and so far its been for the better.

Here is a pic of the machine from when I started (control panel removed of course).

Image

As lovely as the cabinet was it didn't really fit the style I wanted for the machine, and as painful as it was I spray painted over it. I do plan on purchasing some sideart graphics in the future.

Cool, is it a cabinet to a certain game or just a standard jamma cab?

This is the machine in its current state of the machine shown.

Changes needed include the control panel needs a few thin boards to cover any corners. I've ordered a marquee to replace the Simpsons one currently at the top (the new marquee is my own design). The 4 red buttons on the front along with the coin slot will be removed. The monitor also needs bringing to the glass (currently building a harness for it). Few touchups here and there i.e paintwork and then its all the little tweeks etc.

I got it off eBay about a year or two ago for £100ish - It used to house a golf game of sorts with a weird ball you had to roll to make your swing. That has now been removed and it's just like your standard cab now, it's all empyied out, no screen or anything. Just sitting around doing nothing much for the moment.

For a cab yeah, they can be cheap, delivery can be the hard part (aswell as the space and trying to get it into a standard doorway), then you have to purchase a PCB.
Individual game PCB's costs anything from £50 to £1000's.

This machine in total has cost me around £800+, some Mame cabinets go for around £600 on ebay but tend to only have 19" monitors (mines got a 22").

Depends what you are after, keep in mind that in standard arcade machines its not like sticking a cartridge in, you have to unscrew the PCB, unplug pin-inputs and a harness to fit new boards (and depending on the machine, not all boards are compatible).

Other machines like the Neo-Geo 6 slots use MVS catridges and can have 6 in a 1 time, but again you are limited to Neo-Geo only games.

Oh no!! You shouldn't have ruined the simpsons game anyway! You could have built your own arcade cabinet from scratch. I did and it was actually pretty easy. Had my genesis hooked up to it for a while. Doesn't have a mame setup or anything but I had some genesis arcade sticks hooked up.

I've been wanting to set up a pc hooked up to my tv strictly for emulators and click games.

Anyone have any ideas on the building of a pc made just for click games? I'd imagine I could save a lot of money and have it optimized for clickteam apps.

Using a TV makes any low-res click game look really good. I sometimes do that at home too.

Having a whole arcade machine + controls around it is plain awesome though!

That's so cool... I think that I want one of those when I get older/my own place .

If I had a laptop I could wizz down to the living room and use the 42" TV, I might have a look at how much screens are and get one for my room... Anyone know how to connect it to an iMac?

Offtopic here: Speaking of playing Noitu Love 2 in odd places - I just played Noitu Love 2 (demo) with my DS . I found a nifty little .nds that let's you map the touchscreen to your mouse control! You need a DS Flash card of some sort though, and it's kinda limited since you can only move the mouse and do left and right clicks... So I had to press W on my keyboard a few times for some high jump bits.

Was well fun though!

Nice. Now If I ever make a game that goes beyond the "mess around with some ideas then give up phase" and release some sort of super epic masterpiece, you can play it in full microswitch joystick, bulky CRT glory.

This is awesome. Consider yourself a hero.

It's Sad to see a perfectly good Simpsons Arcade Macine get abused, abducted, anally probed, dropped in the wilderness, and mauled to death by rabid wolverines.

But all jokingly seriousnessisocity aside, eerrrmmmm ... Why didn't you just build a new cabinet from scratch ? ... Aren't those old Machines worth anything anymore ? .. You could have sold it to someone, but then they would have probably destroyed it and ruined it anyways, and you'd have alot more work to do.

At least you are using it for something interesting and innovative.

No, really though, Real Arcade Machines are dying and we can't stop it anyway. Now the machines have to be DDR or snowboarding or something where you need to physically interact using your feet and weight displacement instead of your hands, to be newly built. Old school arcade games RIP friends.

Pretty soon, it will be like on Back to the Future (was it II ?) where the girl doesn't know how to play a gun game, and Marty shows her, and she says eww that's a baby game, you have to use your hands.

* Sorry for the rambling, I tend to do that sometimes. KEEP UP the GOOD WORK Jason ! ... You should build more of them and sell the machines to whatever arcades that haven't yet gone extinct. Talk to ClickTeam and see if they'll hire you to do that ! ... the site could be advertised on the machines, and people would see just how professional games can be when created with ClickTeam products. *

Convince 'em dude, I'd like to see one the next time I visit Las Vegas (I know there's arcades there still) ....

You have the skills ... so why not ?

Good Luck !

Haha, first of all, MBK, in back to the future 2 that wasn't a girl, it was Elijah Wood.

Anyway, what setup do you have going on there in the screen in those pics. Is that an all in one emulator so you can play arcade games, genesis, etc.?? Can you get it to load from startup and pick games with the joystick? If you can't tell I'm wanting to do something similar where I can just turn it on, pick Sonic 2 or Mario Kart and just play.

Its a frontend program called MameWah.
I alter the config files so it knows the rom directory and what emulator to use. You can toggle through each console using the joystick and select games via the buttons.
When wish to play a different game I simply press player 1 & 2 start buttons together and it takes me back to the game select screen.

See this video I made (still using a keyboard in this one though).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJLI-BFm6ck

Mamewah boots straight up from when the computer is turned on, so no windows loading screens. This can simply be done using the startup folder, or for more advanced users, using Shells.

It's already sounding more complicated then anything I'd be able to figure out. I'll still have to look into it though. I've got 2 computers sittin around doing nothing and an empty arcade cabinet. I've already got the pc to tv hookups too so I'd just have to buy the arcade stick.

I actually built a custom cocktail cabinet running MameWAH w/4 joysticks and scratch-built computer. I'll try to post some pics if I get my camera working.

But I have a question for Jason:
Have you been able to load a list of click games through mamewah? I haven't really tried, but do you think it's possible?

When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Indeed I have, the trick is to link the shortcuts (.lnk) to create a list.

I'm going to start work using a different frontend later today, I will show some pics if I get it working. Should look really smart.

When I saw those pictures, I felt a little nostalgic.
You did a great job!

It's not a problem of space or money, but I'm sure I won't be able to set the whole thing.

Done some more work on the machine
Got the Marquee I designed and ordered.
It now has 4 speakers and a sub (note the 2 additional speakers on the front).
The monitor has been brought forward.
The coin mech has been removed and a volume control is seen sticking out (that whole front panel will be replaced and just the volume nob will stick out)
