This is copied from my thread from SonicRetro.org, but most of it applies:
Over the past few months it's been getting harder and harder to fall asleep, and it's turning me into a complete jerk. I'll try to go to bed very early, say 9:00 PM, and I'll just end up lying in bed, trying to find a comfortable position until I fall asleep. Usually, I'll fall asleep around 1:30 or 2:00 AM. It's been getting worse; last week I got about three hours of sleep, and last night? None.
This has terrible effects, social and physical. I'm always tired and worn out; every extra second in the bed in the morning feels more awesome than it should. I'm more arrogant and touchy than I should be, or anyone really should be. It makes me a total asshole; it's hard to communicate without interjecting some sadistic, cynical, rude, or just plain stupid sentence into any conversation I have, be it online or "IRL".
It seems like I am tired, or permenantly jet-lagged from my trip to london. From about two years ago. I am very tired during the day, but am quite active at night. I mean, look, it's 1:17 AM at the time of writing, and it seems that every post I make that isn't late at night is a completely rude, stupid, and poorly written troll or flame, particularly the atrocity known as my posts in the Sonic 2 HD thread.
What can I do about this? I don't want to keep going on like this; I hate being thought of as the asshole all the time to people who haven't met me when I'm not tired. It's seriously hurting my already-mediocre reputation nearly everywhere, and I need to do something about it. Even worse, when I try to apologize about what I've done it's too late; nobody wants to hear another word, not even a word of apology or explanation, and it looks like I just killed a thread. Medication is out of the picture; I refuse to pay for sleep. My bed is very comfortable though; I've tried this in various environments only to find the same results.
Run and lift waits. I used to have your problem, and this is the solution. You are mentally tired, but your body isn't physically tired. After getting lots of exercise, your body fall asleep easier, plus there are other added benefits. When you exercise, your body generates hormones which put you in a good mood throughout the day. You will also be more hungry, thus you will eat more and be more happy.
All I can recommend is that you exercise more, eat a healthier diet etc. It's been explained to me a few times that during the early teens your body can cope with everything you threw at it. But as you get older you need to eat better stuffs otherwise things go wrong. Part of the reason of my old anx attacks was lack of food (only had a bowl of cereal and bacon butty in a day) keep on that for 2 weeks and you're body says "OI, somethings up".
Never go on medication for it.
Try exerting yourself physically, go for a day long walk.
If you don't mind me asking do you think you have a good diet at the moment, are you keeping fit?
Okay, wow. You think you have a problem? I must be completely mental then. I haven't been able to get more than four hours of sleep, every day for the past six months or so. I go to bed at 22:00-24:00, but I usually don't fall asleep until 03:00-05:00. I have to get up at 07:00 every day. Sometimes I don't even sleep at all.
Don't know what's wrong with me then, because I eat relatively healthy and exercise regularly. For a while I thought it was my sitting on the internets all the time that was causing it, so I tried doing other things but it didn't help.
And I realize I must sound terribly whiney, so here's a random GIF for you:
I go to bed around 2.00am in the morning every night, i wake up around 9.00- 10.00, eat my crap and do my weights, then i take some super tonic steroids to help wake me up. Ha-Ha just joking!
i think a big trouble with sleeping are computers these days, i mean i am on the frickin pc all night and its hard to get off, by the time i walk away from my pc its late VERY LATE! my eyes look like frickin puffed up golf balls man! ha-ha just joking!
Get more fresh air and get a hammer and smash any darn techno shit that keeps you awake.
i don't know where you're from and if it costs money there, but why not see a doctor? he should be able to tell you if there's anything specific you need to consider for your meals.
James is right Bibin, food might be the key, prefer 3-4 meals in a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacking in between does wonders to your energy level during the day. I never have trouble sleeping but cause of the kids i go to bed around 1am to get some "tv time" wich is fine for me

Whoa, wait, it might not have anything to do with diet and nutrition at all. You're actually more likely to feel sleepy if you're overnourished or undernourished.
First, the human body was designed to sleep in darkness, so make sure you get enough of that. And don't face the monitor at night. It stimulates your brain, which is the last thing you need.
Sleep at night. The trouble is that you're not used to sleeping at night.. once you work it into your pattern again, it's easier. Try meditation or hypnosis. Try to hypnotize yourself into sleeping, it'll either work or you'll get so bored from thinking about nothing that you'll fall asleep. Works for me. Medication is a last resort, IMHO, and only for a while, to get you used to sleeping at night again.
