Um......its not a shooter its just doesnt really have a genre.

If you're doing it in sets of level themes, with different stages:

the average is about 3 levels.

Quite a lot of games go with 3 levels, usually one of them being a boss (or perhaps 3 and a boss.. it all depends on how big your levels are)

And usually they tend to have between 4 and 8 "zones" (again, it all depends on the vastness of the levels)

So you have between 12 and 24 levels for an average game.

Sonic the hedgehog had 18 levels. (siz zones, each with 3 acts, one of which was the boss... but it also had six special stages so that makes 24 )

depends on the size of the levels, and weather or not the game has saves

I make enough to get to a certain number of hours of gameplay. Depends on how long you think people should play the game for and how many level ideas you can come up with.

Secret levels are always fun.
