I was watching Gametrailers.com's top tens and top five videos, when I suddenly realised about the flaw's of TDC GOTW. GOTW is the first price, which I have seen, is awarded by forum users not any professional judges. It could sound good, but well I think it isn't so good. For example if someone has lots of friends in the community, so it is obvious, that then he wins. Also this forum could have many fake account.
My succestion is that admins or some group are the judges, and they decide which is the GOTW. And the games can be shown like now in the left, where people can comment them, but not vote. The judges can look the comments so it can help the judges to decide, but the judges should have the last word.
Also I find hard as my mr.map maker or Movoe - Movie Organizer, could win game prize.
I hope I can have some opinions about this from you!
I have proven new mathematic formula to be true...
It's a community website, where the community votes for your game. I agree that it has the potential to become a popularity contest, but I think enough people here vote on games that they like, that we can somewhat fish that out. As far as admins being the judge. Lets face it, they complain enough that they have to actually keep it updated weekly, do you honestly think they're all going to vote? It's just one more reason to prolong our GOTW a few more weeks. (Christmas Competitions anyone?) I think we should just leave it as it is, strictly because it works for what it was intended for. It's not like anyones really winning anything, except a nice little photoshopped tag over a miniture screenshot of their game, and a placement in a page that few people ever visit, because most of the links go dead after a month.
It's one of those idea's that sound good on paper, but wont work for a site like this. If you want professional judges, go submit your game to a site that has them. Just know that your work will also be judged against those who had benefits you yourself, decided not to take in not using software or studying programing as long as they have. It's a little harsher, but you know, such is life.
PS: Highschool has the same exact problem when it comes to voting for school presidents and such. Considering a lot of the maturity around here, I'd say we're in a similar boat anyway, so I mean... asking for professional or admin votes, is like asking the same for school boards. It's just not happening.
Brandon: I kind of agree with you on what you say actually. Nobody got around to updating GOTW this past weekend so now it looks like it'll be prolonged till next Saturday. Also, we simply don't have the time to download absolutely everything, and we don't want to be accused of favouritism/biasedness towards a particular person we like or don't like - because that's happened in the past as well, particularly when the Christmas Competition results usually come out...

Voting should be done by the people. It shows the most honest opinions about a game, kind of how reviews like to work on other sites (though we have reviews + a review average here too). About fake accounts, this is already remedied in some ways and if there are people disliked they can still win GOTW anyway because of the actually-not-so-small userbase.
to be honest GOTW is great but does it really matter. I have been coming to this site for about 4 years (ish) and i dont recall ever thinking "hmmm that game shouldnt have one GOTW". People are always gonna think its rigged if they dont win! but if you did win and somone els says "hey this is rigged" you would be pretty pissed yourself.
Just chillaxe, its all good, plus im sure the admins wouldnt exepct any cheating in the voting system.
I vote nearly every week and i only vote for what i think is worth the title of GOTW. i couldnt care less who made it. If your game is the most liked that week, then youll win it.
This is a community site, it doesnt need judges imo, we have admins who i assume watch the voting and would step in if "game with black square and up and down movment" won over some quality title.
Nope, can't change it. Besides, us admins can give 500 votes or whatever if we really wanted to
The flaw of the GOTW is that it's a democracy. A true democracy. Which means that a lot of people will be voting for whatever has the nicest name, best screenshots, or was simply the last game they played. That includes any 'judges'. And trust me, nobody would want to be a judge, because after a few weeks, someone is going to criticise his judgement and he'll start hating his job.
It's all happened before. So the best way is to stick with what we have. Of course, if you like, you can start your own awards site. I'm sure everyone would love to see a klik awards site

Yeah, those crazy greeks, they had no idea what they were getting us into

I think I'm too lazy for it, but it would be nice. One idea is, that rikus puts "top 10 click of the year 2007", into next klikcast (check top 10 thing from gametrailers). Also I would rather watch them from video, than reading stuff.
