So last night I had a dream that I bought an Asus EEE laptop and now I want one. Thinking about getting the 20gb 900 model and installing XP on it, as a kind of handheld console for 2D games and old 3D stuffs.
Anyone else got one? Love to know how they perform in real life and if they're actually any good!
but if i bought one i would most likely soley run ubuntu on it if possible.
it doesnt have much disk space though. any media would porbably need to be on an external harddrive if thats possible. but for 600$ ? thats pretty sweet. do you know what its graphical capabilities are?
It's some intel GPU so it's nowt special. Been watching vids of it on Youtube and it seems to run HL2, GTA etc all very well indeed. Granted about 5gb will be given to apps, probably another 10gb to games and 5gb for docs and projects. It'll be a squeeze but there's always the SD card slot. Thankfully an 8gb SD card costs a fraction of what my 8gb Sony Pro Duo card cost so that aint too bad.
The 900 model has 1gb ram. which should hopefully be enough for what I need! Which is just internet, games, office apps, email, MSN and friends.
Coolio! thats out next month too. My only beef is the HDD, I'd rather have a solid state drive for travelling. But that CPU is a whole world better.
oooo but it has Bluetooth. I suppose I could always replace the 80gb drive with a 32gb solid state drive if need be... Wind it is! 5 hours battery life sounds bloody beautiful too.
I do plan on the Wind now I'm actually very excited for it!
What would be nice is if the SSD could house docs and important files whilst a mini 10gb regular drive could handle paging and caching. So if it does break then who ruddy cares? Just get another little £5 drive.
I have the 700 4GB model with 1gb ram in it, cost me 300 euro. Runs amazingly smooth. Haven't tried windows on it but no bothered since I'm a Linux user. Everything runs fine apart from updating the intel graphics drivers (which you need to do to play games), that's causing me some trouble. Though I have gotten Tibia running on it so my gaming needs are still met
Having a little old laptop for old games is sweet. I used mine in college to make my final piece (a game I can never release because it seems to only work on that laptop)! Oh, and to play Doom in class...
Sweet! I'm working on another little game as a kind of break from a big project, I hope it turns out as good as Plasma Warrior did. I'm limiting the colours again, that style was cool, this time I'm using the NES palette!
Just did a mcGoogle of that laptop, looks nifty! I don't go out enough to justify getting one, though
Neither do I really. I pop down to my girlriends uni once every 2 weeks, sometimes go to the library when writing essays and that. All my current laptop does is sit beside the bed checking emails every minute. Figured I might as well sell that for a hefty wedge (sort of a collectors item) and get myself a much cheaper laptop. Just hope it's good to type on!
Yea its surprising how fast they run when you first buy it. Next thing I want to get is a PDA with Ubuntu Mobile on it (when Ubuntu Mobile is released). Ever since I changed over to Linux I haven't gone back
I upped the ram in my eee to 1gb coz it only had 512 when i bought it. I still have a normal laptop with Ubuntu on it for proper gaming and coding.
