I would LOVE to have a 3d OldManClayton model, but I can't model at all. I'm not exactly sure what I'd use this for, unless I found a good 3d game creation system (or learned code) or I filed it away for later... But I could use it in short animations and avatars. Any modelers here? I could actually probably come up with some other stuff to be modeled too. I would offer payment if I didn't have to explain why I was using Paypal to my parents. We could scheme some other payment, though... maybe programming or artistic services? I can't stress how awesome this would be and how much my favorite TDCer you would be if you did this. I could send diagrams if the modeler doesn't know what he looks like...
Awesome! I'll have my sister draw some clear reference pics later today. (she's the better artist. ) Would you prefer computer drawn or paper scans? If you don't reply I'm going to go ahead and have her do computer sketches.
It's very intuitive, significantly cheaper than 3DS Max, and has nearly as many features without being loaded down with a bunch of crap you'll never use
Yes, most people that I have been in contact with who are good modelers use lightwave... however I've never used it because it's still pretty darn expensive. (At least, it was when I last checked.) Kirby Smith, my sister is drawing some reference pics, I tried to get her to draw some larger stuff, but she made a "Haaowooaowoa" noise so... Once she's done, I'll upload 'em. If they're too small I'll have a reason to give her for making larger pics.
PM'd ya. I really wish I could've found some better reference pictures... I'll keep looking and try to convince my sister to draw a better one if those don't help enough. I wouldn't be so worried about it except the way we draw OldManClayton from the side is different from what he would look like as a 3d model... The clay model pics didn't even do it justice... Maybe I'll upload a few pencil sketches. Thanks!
Edit: Well, I guess I might as well put up the reference in case somebody else wants to give it a shot...
Here ja go. He doesn't usually wear a belt, but I had to put something to cover the seam. And, he has shoelaces because whenever I drew people then, they always had sholaces.
WARNING: I was too lazy to scale them down, so they're pretty large. (bout half a meg each.)
NOTE: Whoops. Only enough space for one right now. I deleted some old files, so I'll put up other pics when it registers that I have enough space.
I could probably do this in anim8or. But do you want him to be animated? I don't think Anim8or can export 3ds skeletons unfortunately. And I don't know how to make models with limbs that are properly attached in anim8or, like that look as if they're skinned, and don't look like action figures. I used to use a Quake 2 Modeler for animating my stuff(but that was of course for Quake 2 models).

Well, I appreciate the offer alot, but Kirby Smith said he was going to try. Who knows, maybe I'll have to take you up on that. And of course, I've got another coupla things I need modeled later...
I'm working on the model, I just haven't had as much free time as I anticipated. If you want to have Roseweave give it a shot too, I wouldn't be offended. It's entirely possible you'd prefer the style she takes over mine. I'll be done with it sometime next week.
Coolbeans. Roseweave, if you want to try it, I'd be very grateful to you as well. Take as much time as you need, Kirby Smith, I'm in no hurry and you're doing it for free after all.
I've tried blender a least four different times, at different stages of intelligence, and I never got it. The interface is messy. I do have anim8or, (which I know isn't that powerful) but I can almost never make what I want. (It still turns out cool... but it's not what I was intending. ) I'd probably have to have someone actually show me in real life how to do it, because tutorials just don't seem to help. That, and I don't want to take the time to read MORE tutorials. I DC Mailed Kirby Smith, maybe he'll have gotten far enough that I can finish it.
the interface is not messy. its very organized, its just also VERY detailed. every little aspect of EVERTHING is there and its just hard to remember where everything is and what everything actually does.
I'm fine with Anim8or. However, I don't necessarily want to learn to model well right now, I just want an OldManClayton model. Learning 3D Modeling can come when I need it.
