Not saying they're bad or anything but with some more shading you should be able to have some pretty decent results.
Graphics can never be too simple. What a silly thing to say, it all depends on visual style and theme.
I'm not so sure it was a silly thing to say; it is more likely that Johnny Look was trying to say that the trees are too simple/flat in comparison to the rest of the background. If this is the case, i think he has a point.
Apart from the trees though, i think the graphics look cool!
