Hi,
Does anyone know, or has heard of, software which can create random (preferably MIDI) music that allows the product to be used for any purpose?

I doubt it would be anything good. But there are plenty of royalty-free midi sites out there. (I know that's not the answer you want to hear. Using music that isn't original is no fun, I know. )

http://tones.wolfram.com/generate/ That gave some interesting stuff, but as with anything that's random, it's just too random. Like monkeys on keyboards.

You could make random music with the big box object.

-Alway
Play Random(X)tone for Random (X) miliseconds.

I doubt it would sound good though.

I looked at that site It looks good, but unfortunately it's "Personal use only" ¬_¬

Ricky:
I'll try that.
EDIT: Laptop doesn't have an internal speaker. I'm missing out on so much!

Re: "Personal Use Only". I've not visited this site myself so correct me if i'm wrong, but is it possible to record/export the tunes you make, then edit them in another program (eg change the equalizing, add some reverb, maybe a little re-mixing with another tune made using the same way) - that way it would be hard to recognise where it came frome and therefore you don't need to feel so guilty. Is this possible?

Probably, but that's shaky ground legally. Don't worry about it, I've decided to keep the ambience sounds in Exoearth rather than replace them with music, because apparently it adds to the atmosphere of the game.

Thanks anyway,

I used to have something like what you want called Melody maker. Dunno if i still have it though. It created midis but has a limited amount of templates so it kinda produces similar sounds music at time.
Also it was Japanese so you have to guess at what notes you're placing on the actual melody.

Lol, if music could be generated randomly, I don't think people in the music industry would be so rich. Random music is... noise.

Hmm.. that actually sounds like a good idea for a thesis.
