Okay, im currently using MMF 1.5, the original clickteam package that pretty much does the job any 2d programmer would be more than proud of. I spent £50 on it back in the day and it has done me proud as the best thing since my discovery of knp when i was about 10. NOW! it seems everyone is using the wonderful MMF2 and although i can't reeeeally afford it... i kinda want it as iv been feeeling rather limited recently (when are clickteam gonna realise that mp3s have taken over the world of midi. honestly).

My question, is it really worth the upgrade? Is that extra +0.5 of a software really worth another £75 out of my near depleted bank account?
If anyone has a link to a features list between 1.5 and 2 or just any information to further pursuade me to do the deed, then please share

THaaaank uz

It's definitely worth it. MMF2 is a big improvement over 1.5, especially with performance. Dual core support would be nice and there are a few bugs in there which haven't been ironed out. But I still give it my

Like all (or just most) of Clickteam's products, MMF2 IS a bit buggy. But likewise, again, like all Clickteam products, it's really good. $120 is totally worth it. What makes awesome (In my point of view) Is that it's as easy as pie, Plus you can DL extra extensions off of MMF2 extension sites, which pretty much makes it prime. Go for it, man.

hmmm, im confused. mmf 1.5 is easy as pie too (if not easiER than pie) and from what iv seen the extensions that are available for mmf2 are the exact same as the ones you can use for mmf 1.5? am i wrong?

The only improvment iv heard of is performance as mentioned by PhD Dr. James, but after so long of using mmf 1.5 ive become happy with just making certain active objects load up when needed etc.
$120 tho man. thats £75! thats a weeks rent

Well, I've never used MMF before, however I used TGF. At first I thought it was great, but it was so buggy it wasn't even funny. Oh, and about the Midi files. MMF2 has an extension called Direstshow that can play MP3, OGG, WAV, MIDI (though I'd never use it. ), MPEG, WMA, and WMV. And don't get The Games Factory 2, it doesn't have what MMF2 does.

I guess you can still get an upgrade discount if you have already bought MMF1.5:

http://www.clickteam.com/eng/upgrade.php

MMF2 is really worth it though. I found programs that are made with MMF2 to be more stable than programs made with MMF1.5.

In the months that I've used TGF2 (cut-down MMF2) I haven't experienced any bugs whatsoever. Though, I haven't used the stuffings out of it because I use TGF1 mostly. If you have the money, go for it.

I've always used MMF2... well klik n play when I was 9 but anyway it has a lot of better stuff on it. Check out creativeengine.com. If you give them a photocopy of your student ID, theyll give you MMF2 Pro. for the price of regular edition! Amazing!

tried to get that discount copy of MMF2 pro and its just not happening dude. The website doesnt even exist

Still, iv decided to get it either way (not pro). I can see what people mean by the difference in game stability over two products and its something that every game would benifit from. Also after getting the demo i sort of fell in love with the new interface and general little extras that it delivers

What do you think you're going to want to do, that you can't do already with MMF1?
You mention playing mp3, but there are at least 3 extensions for MMF1 that let you do that.

Unless you actually have need for it, I wouldn't bother upgrading yet - especially if you "can't reeeeally afford it". They're just not *that* different - for me personally, the one really big advantage of MMF2 is the hardware acceleration, which can make a huge difference to the speed some games run.

Best advice I can give you if you're unsure, is to download the demo, and see what you think.

Features I like in MMF2:
- Expression editor has color
- The event editor has folders (no longer will having 500 different kinds of objects in your game break your screen)
- Less bugs.
- Nicer looking interface.
- Debugger (which means you can check the Alt. Values, Flags, Array data at a glimpse)
- The things that are run on call are highlighted in the event editor
- Better animation editor, which is much faster to use than MMF1.5, though they removed a few features like the color picking.

Honestly, if you're not frustrated with using MMF1.5, MMF2 is not worth it. If you can't afford MMF2, Construct is a better deal. But if you want to make ambitious games without straining your eyes, then get MMF2.

Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
