A newish pokemon comes out in march. It looks pretty cool. But.. I saw a 7 year old kid come in to the ice cream store the other day, playing pokemon. I'm almost 21, ;_; am I getting to old for this? Anyway, it looks cool and will probably buy it.

skip to 6 minutes in to see the crazy 3d stuff

youre never too old for pokemon. although i think they should stop making it.

i passed by cartoon network midday (never anything good on during the day) and it was like pokemon the movie #13. are you kidding me? theres been that many movies!?

pokemons 1 - 151, gameboy red blue and yellow, the original BASE card set, the first seasons with the original characters, and the first movie. if theres been 13 movies i cant imagine how many series, spinoffs, seasons, card sets, games there has been.

rediculous

The only Pokemon bit I bother with are the colour/item branded RPG titles. Frankly I think they're brilliant. The most customisable RPG going.

Don't think I'll both with Platinum just yet. Already played through Pearl twice (combined at about 200 hours).

Pokemon was a brilliant game. I honestly stopped caring after the first generation of Pokemon. I had memorized them all and I felt like I was back to square one when suddenly all these little brats who were younger then me, knew about over 100 new Pokemon that I couldn't be bothered to remember. That was the turning point where I sort of lost interest.

I stopped being majorly interested after gold and silver, there were so many more features. And what ever is in that video looks terrible, with the invisible platforms appearing half of it looks like guess work.

I'm surprised it's still around! Usually fads fade out, but Pokemon has hung on. I think everyone calls pokemon stupid, but secretly loves it. I wasn't allowed to play pokemon or watch the cartoons when I was little (and I can see why) but I still enjoyed my share. Someone gave me fire red and I enjoyed it.

I agree with Cecil. Some things you just never get too old for.

X) I can't believe how many different movies and seasons of the show there have been.

Id just like to see a decent 3d Pokemon RPG, for the wii. Basically like a direct copy of the 2D games, but 3D.

3D adaptations always introduce some gimmick or gimped version. I have yet to see a good 3D console adaptation of a 2D game that either just ported 2D well or did a new 3D version right.

Nintendo knows that the console versions are cack, thats why they give out rare Pokemon in them in a shallow attempt to entice players.
That said I'm guilty of getting the Pokemon Ranch because it's one of the few ways to get a legit Mew

Nintendo are taking the piss lately, though. They seem to have wasted a lot of potential, with Animal Crossing, Pikmin and Wii Music. Animal Crossing was hardly any different to Wild World, Pikmin is a GC game with Wii controls and Wii Music has had a lot of bad reviews. They just seem to be money grabbing for doing very little at the moment.

Edit: I kinda liked Pokemon Snap, too Although Mew was fairly easy to take photos of

"pokemons 1 - 151, gameboy red blue and yellow, the original BASE card set, the first seasons with the original characters, and the first movie."

Pokemon in it's prime!

The first season of pokemon... so magical... I'm still waiting for them to make a game that captures that magic. 3D, open world (was it Kanto or something?), pokemon frolicking in the wild... aaaah, it's still my idea of a perfect game. I played up to Emerald and started to find it soulless, too much about numbers. I think there was one episode where they mentioned pokemon having 'levels', too, and it didn't seem right to me. POKEMON ARE REAL CREATURES, NOT ROBOTS I need a pokemon game with a heart!

A strange fact about the first pokemon game is that it took 5 years to make. However all of these new games seem to be churned out rather quickly.

I bought Pokemon pearl for my DS and have never actually played it, lol.

Pokémon Red/Blue was great, I loved it right away and it is one of my favorite RPGs. My interest however got lower by every game that followed(not implying that the games were bad, just that I got tired of the franchise).

Thats probably because the team was smaller back then, but these big games take 2 years to come out.
Red-Blue 1999.
Gold-Silver 2001.
Ruby-Sapphire 2003.

Oh, yea I forgot Nintendo's franchises. >_> I knew I'd think of plenty after I said that.

Fact remains that they haven't done a perfect 3D pokemon yet. It seems that a lot of times the first entries of shows and games are liked the most...

The cards were actually what got me. I think more people played the card game where I lived, then anything else, honestly. So much so that they banned them from school because kids were stealing them from each other. I don't care what anyone says, Pokemon set the standard when it came to card games imho and so far nothing has beat it. (Except maybe Magic the Gathering... which I have to say, I too enjoyed a lot.)

my cousin actually went to toys r us every saturday to do their little pokemon card league thing to get badges n shit. and even THEN i thought, "man this is way over the top".

i have a complete set of pokemon base set cards. played through red blue and yellow with only 6 pokemon all level 100 (venesaur blastoise and charizard. and the three legendary birds. i swapped out the birds for various other 100's like mewtwo, pidgeot, and pikachu. i also had the 100+ pokemons that you used the cinnabar island cheat to get, where missing no. was. i had a 153 snorlax) i watched pokemon the movie and pokemon the movie 2000 (full of shame that second one was). so basically everything UP until the second set of 100 pokemon was amazing. they screwed it up after that. the story became convoluted and unfun and there were too many lackluster pokemon. quality before quantity, those bastards.

i never felt like it was psychic beat everything. i kicked so much ass in that game maybe i didnt notice.

it wasnt so much that it wasnt interesting its just that they marketed pokemon as 150 and "gotta catch em all" and when i finally did it was like "oh hey, theres more, you gotta catch em all....again", and the pokemon kept getting more and more unoriginal.

oh and ill be damned if they do that "name that pokemon!" thing during the commercials anymore. 450+ pokemon now. do they still even have a song that does all the pokemon? its rediculous. it became unnoriginal. i hate it when companies milk a franchise to death for money. there are SO few people who actually care about the consumer.

I never really tried to catch em all. I just liked making little unbreakable teams on paper so that no combination could beat them. I see your point though, it would be annoying to catch em all only to have 100 new ones made.

Ghost and Bug?
Psychic were only strong against Fighting and Poison. They just usually have very high special attack stats.

Most bugs (might have been all) were half poison. All the ghosts were half poison. Also think the only ghost attack was night shade, which was not effected by type modifiers.

I don't. O_o Pokemon was just a passing smidgen interest awhile ago when I got Fire red for free. I never even touched a pokemon card, but remember various people throughout my childhood in different towns I lived in flaunting their collections in those binders with the clear holders. Then there was the burst of Yugi-Oh for a year or two, and now Pokemon reigns again.

No that would be terrible.
What would be nice is a proper new game that doesn't follow the old formula so strictly. The start and end are always the same! And 3D battles using the low poly stuff from Pokemon Ranch, but at a fast pacing like Ruby/Sapphire.

The 7 year old kid is too old for Pokemon. And you're just pathetic! ... lol ... j/k .. seriously though, every Poke' game is the same, and there's nearly no strategy to them. And the only action is walking around and reading dialogues, the battles are like a turn-based rpg minus any real strategy ... BORING.

You need to admit that you were brainwashed with that "Gotta Catch 'em All" mentality thrown at you by some large corporation bent on world domination and be done with it. Ever see that South Park episode? LMFAO

This one surprisingly looks neat though ... they swiped my platform ideas though, heh.

I still wouldn't buy it though, cause you know the battles will still be crap and the storyline about the same as the first Pokemon game.

Like Power Rangers and a billion other stale franchises, they should just let it die already and make something new.
Sadly, it's all about money and they brainwash the young over and over with this stuff, so it will never end.

The card game just took the Good old stuff like Dungeons and Dragons and totally crapped on it, threw some cuteness and flowers in there, then spun it off as something new. Just like the games, it should all burn in a huge bonfire, you don't need Poke'mon for a good creature style game. They ruined creature games imho.

I wasn't allowed to watch Pokemon or play the games or trade the cards when I was little (for good reason) but I still enjoyed my copy of Fire Red. There is definitely strategy to it, as anyone who has fought and caught legendary pokemon knows.

But I agree that it's been beaten to death. It seems more like a one-time coolness than an eleven or twelve or however many years-long cash cow. They need to just release one that can get new content online, so the pokemon fans would get variation but the market wouldn't be saturated. But enough craziness...

There's already some Pokemon MU*s, though a lot died quickly. Except for that one about yiffing pokemon.

I got Platinum the day it came out as a present from my friends. It's really good. I don't think that the games are boring or they are the same every time. The experiences are different enough in my opinion. The upgrades each generation gets are cool as well, such as the sexes in Gold/Silver, natures, abilities and contests in Ruby/Sapphire, and the new wireless features, global trade, and other things I don't remember in this one.

I too disagree with the idea that there is no strategy in these games. As OldManClayton said, the legendaries are a good example. Mainly because you only get one shot, because if they faint you can't find them again. Those that move around are even more challenging, because if you are too slow you can't even attack. If they use a move such as Roar to end the battle, you'll never see them again, and they can run away at anytime even when asleep or paralyzed. You also have to know the type managements, same-type attack bonuses, when to use items or recovery moves, how to raise and drop stats at the right time, the effects of different Pokemon abilities, and so on and so forth. If it didn't require strategy, any noob could just pick it up and beat any battle, but that isn't the case. You need to use the right type of ball, you get few Master Balls, and those like the Timer Ball are best in certain situations. Also remember that you can't just get strong Pokemon from friends because you need the right amount of badges to get it to listen to you. Just go to Bulbapedia and see how complicated this game is. How many Pokemon games have you played through entirely, MBK?

The storyline changes a bit, but it isn't really that important, and there's always stuff to do outside the story. The Platinum story is changed well enough from the Diamond and Pearl ones, even ignoring the Distortion World (which I'm not at yet). Gold was a sequel to Blue, and it had two places to travel in, with Team Rocket acting vastly different from the three years before. Teams Magma and Aqua were fighting in Ruby and Sapphire and didn't act exactly like Rocket. Now that I think about it, the plots aren't that similar beyond the fact that there is a team that wants to control the world. They all do it different ways, at different times. And in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum there are more story elements outside of the Team Galactic (that's what Looker calls them, "the Team Galactic") and more Galactic treachery that involves the Legendary pokemon. I like this game a lot.

You misunderstand, MBK has never played a Pokemon game.

Old, but if you have an action replay for the DS, there's a camera hack for the DS versions that lets you bring the camera behind you characters shoulder.
