im using the pmo for a little starter project, and im a bit lost on a few things! i have a ladder that i have no idea how to get started on, then there are the stairs, im going for a castlevainia kind of style, and then there is a platform that I want the player to be able to move through when going up and down the stairs but i want the player to be able to move on top of it when the player is not on the stairs. halp! let me know if i need to give any more information.

I suck at ladders, but I know if you use the (buggy) default platform movement (not recommended) it knows to change to the climbing animation and react to the ladder accordingly.

...I think?

I havent used the PMO myself but from what you have said (about wanting the character moving up stairs/ladders like castlevania) you may want to consider going all custom. I guess it depends how accurate or smooth you want it to be but going custom (with various collision markers) is best in the long-run.

Castlevania is my fav type of game btw, I'd be interested to see what you are coming up with. I once did an online version of 'symphony of the night' (only one stage but was still a lot of work!) i'm assuming here that you are going for the very old style castlevanias because of the ladders and stairs though.

Oh, and welcome to TDC ^^

its actually not a castlevainia clone, tbh, thats just style of stairs im going for (i am a big fan on sotn though!) but yeah the older ones is what im talking about where you press up and then move up. ive actually got a decent idea that if i make the backdrops for the stairs actives, then make the a separate invisible detector on top of the stairs that makes it so that when the player holds up when hes on that spot then it makes those stairs solid. but then id run into when the player stops holding the button then falls through... i could just say put the action point or whatever hotspot i think about 1 or two pixels above the players so that i can also say when the player is above the hight of the stairs then it becomes solid. or maybe i might be able to get away with just making a bunch of small actives for each step. who knows. i think the same could be done with the platforms. if anyone can suggest a better way thatd be cool. im still lost on the ladders though...

and thanks for the welcome and the advice both of you!

Slightly unrelated but I think you watch WWF! They had that match many years ago when I watched it back in the 6th form (16/17ish I think) years. I'd also go as far to say that despite what your DC username represents, you aren't actually female - although don't take this as me having a pop at you!

I used to use the PMO in early projects, and if I remember correctly if you downloaded the extention it came with an example that showed you how to work it with ladders and what I call "jump-thru" platforms that you would need the stairs to be? Have a search for it in your examples folder.

hmm that engine is quite ... weird ^^

Character kinda floats a few pixels before landing and the scrolling is quite juddery. Still, better than default movement.
