I'm working on a River City Ransom clone and I'm having problems with a small thing=
I've managed to give the player some basic attacks and I'm starting to feel I'm ready for some more interactive moves, like a grappling move where you grab a hold of the zombie and thrust your knee into it's stomach a couple of times then pushing it away. Are there any tutorials on how to make grapples?
Right now you have it so when the hero punchs the enemy, he plays 'hit' animation right? Well just create a different attack called grapple and when this one connects create a different animation of the enemy hunched over.
Have that animation looped until the hero does a different action. You could also have a build in timer in which the enemy could break out of the grapple if the hero doesn't do something afterwards fast enough.
when making fighting games it's best to use custom movement (if you havent already)
and you will need to make alot of "negating" conditions to your actions. As said above ^^ when enemy "hit" is playing and player walks into enemy - change animation of hero to "grab" (looping animation) and enemy to "grabbed" or a special direction of "getting hit" corresponding to the direction the hero has grabbed the enemy. Negate all other movements or actions while these animations are occuring for both parties.
Finally add a special condition:
IF animation grab is playing+overlapping enemy +fire button pressed = "knee" or throw or whatever.
You can look up copyrights at the copyright office online. I have a registered copyright for Equin Village and used to check that stupid place all the time until it was finally added.
If you ever want to copyright your game, be prepared for a LONG ASS wait.
James, you should try RCR it's a great beat 'em up with RPG elements. The things the enemies say when you kill them is great too. My favorite is "BARF!"
