That cardboard cutout style is something I've been doing as far back as 2006 - http://jimmilerock.deviantart.com/art/Chainsaw-man-revisited-27312040
it's even been my website frontpage since 2006 Edited by Dr. James MD

There's a difference between the cardboard cutout look, and cardboard cutouts hanging from strings and attached to sticks in a fashion that almost screams "Little Big Planet". Just an observation

Right, so you're telling me that isn't inspired by Little Big Planet what so ever?

Nope, it's an evolution of style derived from something I experimented with in 2006. I don't go to game shops and I don't own LBP, nor do I read up on it.
edit: Doing a google search it seems the LBP box has a fabric style and badges, not paper? And there are no supports? Edited by Dr. James MD

Hmm, when I looked at that box cover I thought of LBP too. And I don't even own it either (or read up on it ect.)

I havent played the game or owned it. Ive seen a couple of videos yet I was instantly reminded of it. Kororinpa for the wii uses cardboards, papers and felts for the box graphics yet they managed to do it in a completely different style.

That looks really good. Maybe change the tone of the ship to what the tone of the alien is to make it suit better cause it seems to stick out of the image
