A small selection of WW2 fighters I pixelled:
Image
Anyone care to guess what they're supposed to be and/or offer any other C&C?

I'm planning to use them in a side-view, turn-based strategy.
My idea is for something similar to "Critical Mass", except for you get to control a whole squadron of planes at once, and because it's side-view (and not set in space), you have gravity to worry about aswell

Would anyone play a game like that? It's just that I may have to make it multiplayer only, as the AI would be a killer.

I would play that. The moment I read, "you get to control a whole squadron of planes at once" I was hooked.

This sounds... hmm, something non-cliché... This sounds the Fonz! Oh wait, that's the epitome of cliché... :\

Oh, teeny request... could you post a non-blown-up version as well? It's hard to get an idea of quality at such a zoomed in level. (Not that we need to see it to know it's good, given your history with spriting and all...)

Thanks for the very kind comments
Especially glad you like the general concept - I was just going to use it as a kind of testbed for ideas/coding to use in a direct clone of CM, but then I decided maybe this actually has more potential anyway.

This is them at 100%:

I'm kind of a fan of American WW2 fighters, incase you couldn't tell.

Didn't really have a particular resolution in mind when I drew them - I guess anything over about 800*600 and they'd be a bit tiny

I decided those sprites are probably too small - they aren't going to look good rotated

The new sprites will be larger, and much more realistic looking.

Here's my new Hellcat:

Do you think this new style is an improvement, or did anyone prefer the more "retro" style?

Either is great, but I do like the new ones better. Small is good, medium-sized is better.

The new one is easier to make out what it is.

Very good sprite work!
I'm not nearly that good.

Ok, thanks for the comments guys.
It sounds like the bigger sprites will be worth the extra effort, although I'm not looking forward to making the rolling animations

Maybe someone else is willing to do it. You could look for an additional spriter.

Sorry, but I myself can't help - swamped in my own project right now.

It's a nice idea, but I can't really expect someone else to want to do the tedious jobs I don't want to do myself, and they probably wouldn't be able to copy my particular style anyway.
I might make a simple 3d model or something, just so I can get the proportions right when it rolls - Otherwise, I find it hard to make it look like the wings are always the same length, and at the same angle etc.

Damn, I'm diggin' the new one. Did you make new models for all the planes or just the Hellcat?

Just the Hellcat so far, but I will do the others eventually.
I've been ridiculously busy with non-clik-related stuff just lately, so I haven't made any progress on this for a while now.
