Someone in my school is directing a performance of the play called The Rose of Treason, which is about the WWII protest group the White Rose: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rose
Anyway, I saw a mockup of a poster and took the liberty of making it on the computer. I'm going to present it tomorrow, see what happens. What do you all think?
Originally I put a red rose there and later found out it had to be white, so I had to select the petals separately and desaturate them to gray, then invert them so it was more white, and then balance the colors to give it a creamish tone.
Join those letters up! That's the first thing that jumped out at me. I'm sure you could improve it more but it's definitely good enough for a school play.
The first thing that jumped at me was the stem of the flower not blending very well to the black background.
Other than that it's not bad, though it reminds me more of a click game's main menu than a play's poster.
- First of all you should make the "The Rose of" smaller in size and fit it in the gap on top of "Treason" starting right next to the "T" of "Treason"
- The eyes, nazi logo and the red face thingy seems a bit ackward to me. You should work on those parts a bit more perhaps.
- The white rose looks nice but there is a different contrast between the rose and the background, which could be fixed with a small tweaking. Also make the outlines of the rose still, not scratched cause it makes it blend too much with the lower black background and that will erase the effect of the white rose on the poster
If you still have time on this poster project, I may be able to help out if you like
The letters were broken apart because I wanted the word "Treason" to be longer like the words "The Rose of". I didn't do that fit-in-the-gap thing on purpose. Anyway, My brother suggested that I use the same "T" for "The" and "Treason" but it was 10:30 pm and I was supposed to be in bed so that didn't happen. For the eyes and stuff, the red came up brighter than I would have liked and I could have fixed it but again, time was not on my side and I thought it was okay. The swastikas, I would have prefered an actual waving flag as opposed to the stationary one I found so I has to put it in perspective and smear it to make it look more like it was waving. Really, the smearing on any part of the poster was more to just make it alpha-blend better.
I used GIMP, by the way.
I have no more time on this poster (as it was already given to my teacher, she liked it) but I do have another poster for you to work on, if you want. Also, if you wanted to, you could remake the poster so I can see how you would have done it.
