Does anyone know a good Parallaxing tutorial? No, not using the parallaxer object, just straight, homebrewed parallaxing.

An artical on it would be silly. It'd be like an article "How to place an active in a frame"

Use layers like adam said, just put object in a different layer, then change the coefficient.

If you are using MMF 1.5 or TGF 1 (Things that don't have layers) there is still a way.
You can make a small 1x1 dot and place it in the corner.(Unclick the follow the playfield option)
Then just set the objects to the back and have a event something like:
+Always:
++Set X pos to Xpos("Dot") / 2

Something like that, I cant remember now.

BUT!
If you do have layers, or anything like that... That is the way to go.

Your just jealous that you're not as awesome as me.

There is plenty of information you could put in an article. For a start all the reasons why using layers for parallax might not be the best way to go about it.
Say if you wanted to change the background to something else at runtime, could you do that with a mosaic quick backdrop in a layer?

No, but you could with the active picture + add backdrop + destroy in a layer. Which will then give you the added benefit of storing your backgrounds externally thus reducing the size of your backups (assuming you don't backup the external files every single time).

Actually now that i think about it, i suppose there could be some use to an article that talks about all the different methods

Or you could use one additional layer with lots of active picture objects in it for simplicity.

bad idea imo, since it won't be able to be behind backdrops.

That, and it'd be a lot slower.

I guess you misread RickyG, The one additional layer would be to make all the active picture objects to behind the main layer. You can use the object's offset to make them appear to scroll.
And uh, no Bibin that isn't slower than layers. Layers are like an entire new frame and an active picture object is just an object.

You can use the background system object(I think that's its name) and then you can do that always position /2 or what have you. I don't remember exactly how it is done though. The only draw back is if you use a background system object it should be treated as a layer which means all of your background elements for that layer will be inside the objects picture editor.
