Are there any good FREE music making programs? I have heard a lot about fruity loops but it's only a trial. Any suggestions?

Milky Tracker - www.milkytracker.net
The best of those I suggest in my opinion, but the link doesn't work right now, so you'll have to search for it elsewhere.

Noteworthy Composer for the win! But I suppose most people don't like to write music with written music.

I like to use Modplug tracker, although finding decent samples can be annoying.

I used to use Modplug Tracker, tis a mighty fine little app. But this was back in 2002 theres probably a whole load of better free music apps now.

Most likely not.. One reason why professional programs cost money is the samples. They take a long time to create, and i'm sure the programs themselves weren't made over night. If you want free, your best bet is to go with tracking or Midi programs.
