I remember seeing a MK2 cabinet just like this one at a seaside resort in England once - i just HAD to play it and it kicked my a$$ (probably coz my jaw had just fallen so far down it stopped my hands from hitting the punch buttons!). Walking away from it i just couldn't stop gawping at the huge picture of Raiden on the side of the cabinet and wanted to play it all day long - I had to buy this for the Mega Drive and got it for my birthday in October that year.
Anyone ever play this game? There used to be a place in Hereford called "The Ritz"; a shitty little run-down cafe that had loads of gambling machines and a couple of arcade cabinets (of which Virtua Racing was in there once!). At one time they had this game and it was by Midway. Not only that, it played exactly like MK4 that came later on and i believe perhaps it was a preview of how MK4 was to be (just read on Wiki it was a "litmus test of its new 3D software prior to the release of Mortal Kombat 4")
The highest win-streak was 17 wins, so a few of my mates took turns trying to beat me as i aimed to beat 17 wins and get myself on the top of the high-score table. My skills of MK helped me overcome their challenges and i got the highest score - YAY!!
.....then about a week later the cabinet was removed from the shop, so that was a waste of time (and £19!)
GGRRGPPPRPRREYYWYWWGGGHHH!!! I was a gibbering wreck when i saw this at Hereford's May-Fair one year! Me and my dad had a go on it and i loved every second of it! Thankfully so did my dad, and he bought it for "me" (or rather, him!!) on the Mega Drive, as well as a nice shiny SEGA Menacer gun.
I still have the game but sold the gun many years ago when the Playstation came along. Thankfully i now have a job and a flat and therefore enough room to buy loads of crap, and i re-bought a Menacer, boxed, from eBay! Woop-woop!!
I was never too bothered with arcades, always seemed way too pricey here . But when I was a kid on holiday... taken away from my beloved Amiga ... I used to play around on the Mortal Kombat 2 arcade machine at some Haven site. I won £8 on the jackpot of some money machine and proceeded to spend it all on the MK2 unit. Everyone used to watch me play cuz I knew how to do all the fatalities .

Dear goodness I forgot about those. Never played one. I didn't play too many arcade games since we almost never had extra change (or time) on hand. My favorite one that I did play was Vapor TRX... fun one, that.
I think our mall's mini-arcade closed recently. Nothing exceptionally good, just a quick buck for the owner with a DDR, a few very generic zombie shooters and Sega racers, I think a deer hunting game, and a few miscellaneous ones that used pixel art rather than bad 3D or mocap.
We never really had them here. The only time I ever saw an arcade cabinet was at Blackpool, Haven camp sites or cinemas. None of which we have around here! That's what you get living in the middle of nowhere I guess
Arcades are pretty cool. Except for the price. I'm surprised that people actually go to them when they charge $0.5-$1 for a game.
