I kid you not. Universal have secured the rights to a film based on Asteroids. What does everyone think of this? Personally it makes me want to cry. Now all we need to do is wait for Tetris: The Movie and a film adaptation of Breakout.

Really though, can it be any worse than Street Fighter: the movie?

It'll probably be a spacegeek film with cool ships and eyecandy, but I'd rather it not be tied to Asteroids. That'll just soil the legendariness.

Mark, if it is worse than SF: The Movie then there is truly no hope left.

Yeah you're right! I've not seen many but what is the worst game-to-movie out there? SF:the movie is the worst i've seen, but there are others i've not seen that i bet are worse. Like House of the Dead or Doom.

We all know how epic that would be, and don't anyone deny it.

House of the Dead was pretty awful. Doom was just a poor-man's Aliens. Silent Hill on the other hand was great, I thought. And Postal. Despite being made by Uwe Boll it was actually pretty funny in a terrible taste kind of way.

And Pong the Movie would indeed be epic. For some reason I can imagine it being like Running Man. Some kind of dystopian future where people are forced into giant paddle-like apparatus and made to hit balls at each other. Running Man meets Tron. Totally epic

If they do make Pong the movie, and i'm sure it's inevitable, they better not make one bat red and another blue, coz they'll have copie the concept from Tennis 2002.... and i'll sue!!

Not to mention the incredibly unreliable hyperspace.

I really liked the "Wing Commander" movie - had a surprisingly decent cast too.
Too bad they changed the ship designs...

Making a "Pong" movie actually makes more sense - people will at least get the reference to the game.
You make a movie called "Asteroids" and noone's gonna think of the game - they'll just assume it's another lame disaster movie - let's face it, they're always shit - Armageddon? Deep Impact?

and

;D

There is a disaster movie I do like though. I Am Legend was pretty cool. In fact, that might be how I waste my afternoon if Netflix has it for instant watchage...

Nah - just felt like a big budget, americanized rip-off of 28 Days Later (which was much better). Obviously doesn't involve asteroids either...

I liked both films, though i thought 28 Days Later was better. OMC those films really do look like they'd stink up the place! lol

I've never seen 28 days later. There's a limit to how disturbing a movie I watch, and the preview didn't interest me.

It's not disturbing, just grittier and more realistic. Well, as realistic as zombie films can get i suppose!!

If you've read the book of I Am Legend the film is a bit lame. Especially the ending and the changes to the monsters. In the book they're much more like regular vampires. It was an alright film, but I'd rather it have not been attributed to the book. Although then people would complain that it was derivative.

And 28 Days Later is fantastic. 28 Weeks... not so much. I think it suffered from a higher budget, if anything. Made it too reliant on the special effects rather than the rawness of the first film.
