Dean Dodrill, animator extraordianre, ex-artist of Jazz Jackrabbit 2-3, and creator of 'Dust: An elysian's tail', has released a new trailer of his game!
I can't really put my finger on it, but I've just never been much of a fan of those type of fighting games. The platforming aspect and art may be enough to make me love the game anyway though!
People have their own tastes and preferences. Alot of fighting games I've played were actually really good n all, and then there were some that made me cringe. No way to be sure wether BMUP fans will take to it or leave it just by watching the video tho.
Doesn't look boring at all to me. If the gameplay meshes with the art-style the outcome will be a good one.
"Wow. I have to say this is the first time in years I really like modern graphics. Thanks for posting."
Yea it reminds me of the combat from a Castlevania game but without much player movement. It does look very nice though, I just hope it has gameplay and story to match! Also not much into hack n slash fighters but wheel sea.
Have to agree with most of you, it's pretty but it does look dull. Seems like wasted effort to me.
I usually try not to judge games from a single video like this, but when all you see is running, twirly sword and jump attack in different scenes it's hard not to
I've played games like these before, and they were fun. And then, there were games that played like this, and they were well recieved. 2 notable ones being...
Nothing beats TMNT: Turtles in time for me. After all these years it's still fun, and I'm not much of a beat 'em up player myself. I always thought both Final Fight and Street Fighter were a huge load of crap, and this one looks more or less the same except it has swords instead of fists. However everyone has to admit, the graphics are astounding.
I played Castle Crashers. It had a similar flaw where you could spin your sword around and hit multiple enemies multiple times. Once you learn how to do that, that's all you need to do throughout the entire game. It's possible to do without, but for the most part it looked like the game was designed around this, the knowing that you're going to be using one move over and over and over again despite having other alternatives.
I'll admit, I enjoyed CC because it had multiplayer and beating the tar out of everything with friends made up for subpar and unbalanced gameplay. But very nice graphics (as with this Dust game) do not make up for terrible gameplay.
Holy crap. I first watched the video and thought it was an upcoming game some one here on TDC made using MMF.
It sure was too good to be true.
BTW looks awesome
Graphics are beautiful. Animations are probably the most fluent I've ever seen. But graphics don't really matter to me.
I agree with some of the gameplay looking dull too, it just looks too repitive to keep me interested for long.
Guess you could say, it looks kinda like a Quintin Tarratino film to me. Full of a lot of nice stunts and pretty effects, but lacking in other compartments(I love Quintin Tarratino actually, he just makes a good example for this.)
I wish to obtain such a talent for art and animation. If I had such ability you'd all finally get to see something good from me, lol.
Those graphics and animations are beyond amazing. I love how the deer look.
I can't say whether the gameplay is good or bad without playing it, but it does seem like it will be a bit of a use a move, rinse, repeat, style of play doesn't it?
If I had some money and an online account set up, the first thing I'd do is donate to TDC and the next thing I'd do is buy that game.
Then I'd stare at those graphics for hours in hopes that some of the talent rubs off on me, lol.
Blood of the Ancient One, Seen only as Shadow, Faster than Lightning, Fierce as the Greatest Dragon, Nearly Invisible, Floating in a Dream, Entered through the Demon Door, Destroyer of Evil in a Realm with a Red Sky Scarred, Who could I be ?
I'm still trying to figure out why you posted videos of someone else's game in Digital Works... >_>
I agree with what most other people said; "pretty, but repetitive gameplay". If that's all there is, it might be a good idea for him to make his teaser videos much, much shorter.
The whole 'love transcends death' thing is interesting though. I'm a sucker for a good story.
Both walking animations are awkward because the knees are very stiff and tend to stay in the same fixed position. I'm also afraid that the game play may fall into the repetitiveness of being just another hack and slash. With that said, the graphics are still nice to look at...
