Seemed like a simple character to try. I don't think it turned out half bad. Doesn't really look like Tops, but hey. I'll take what I can get. Tell me what you all think!
I've tried at least 4 times now over as many years to get used to Blender, and I've always been fed up with the nasty interface. I've had anim8or for just as long. There are a few tricks to get used to (I just learned two more today) but it seems a lot cleaner to me.
I've never been able to make many identifiable things, but I reopened the old booger today after about... a year () and managed to make something passable! \/ I also made a 3D Coal but Codemonkey didn't think it looked like Coal. ;__;
I'll have to check out truespace... I've tried a bunch of modelers, and so far I think anim8or is the simplest (In both the good and bad ways.) and best fit for me.
Nice pig model
Does it have a proper skelton and everything, so you can animate it too?
I personally found Anim8or way too complicated for modeling with.
I use Milkshape3D because it's so quick and easy, but I do use Anim8or just for doing renderings (Milkshape is for making game models, so its own renderer really sucks).
Thanks. Actually no I haven't rigged it. I wasn't able to get bones to bind to the model the last time I tried. I'll have to have another go at it sometime.
I think it's quite good for a double take. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the transition between the arms and the gloves, however. I'd add cuffs to the gloves just so it'd make it look more like they were seperate.
And I think he's just a small tad too shiny, unless that's what you were going for.
Anim8or is great for making models simply, but i haven't tried anything with it beyond rendering them into 2D sprites for a Doom wad. I made ants that time then didn't touch it for years so have actually gotten worse and now i can't even make a car with it.
Also i couldn't get the hang of texturing at all. I think you can move textures around on surfaces by using something called "UV". I wanted to make a wooden sign but the texture was horribly distorted. I tried fiddling with the UV setting after selecting the face i wanted the sign to appear on, but i dragged and resized the UV thingy every which way, tried the arrow keys and everything - NOTHING happened to the texture! It's completley beyond me. I suppose you have to simply guess the sizes the textures need to be and make a "net" image for them, like when making 3D cardboard objects at school.
Thanks guys! I've always thought it would be neat to either work for a studio like Pixar or start my own. But I hardly think 3D is my personal calling, usually one requires at least some art skill for that. Who knows though, might get better at it once I make myself learn a 3D game development language or tool.
Thank you all! I've been inspired to make more stuff now. But it'll have to wait until tomorrow, I'm beat.
Also take note that I will take feedback into account if anyone wants to offer any. Though I might not actually change anything, since these are all pretty much done.
This is one of the original sprites for Arcane Tale.
This is after I decided to create a 3D version of it for fun.
The texture is really off, but I made it back in 2006. I'd remake it, but I'm starting to get a little more in to Photoshop. I'm going to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh next month for graphic design.
When I see prices like that I think: "Those prices are for developers who will actually make that kind of money from the benefits of this product. I wont make any money just have fun with it."
I know a place, a bay.
A bay were pirates are.
They plunder and they rob.
Everything behind is bare.
It's called the bay.
The pirate bay.
And that is where we are.
I just tried to explain it while hiding it at the same time... well anyways good luck with your 3D making, upload a fresh specimen of render soon will ya?
If you go to collage sometimes you can get 3d max really cheap! That's how I got the Adobe suite! Awesome stuff there. I don't know how I did without photoshop.
