I saw this game on Indiegamer today and thought, that's my favourite graphics style. I love super freaking chunky pixels. I think it's because I'm super freaking old and it reminds me VGA graphics, but also because nothing looks more obviously hand made than giant pixels.
My favorite look? I don't have one favorite look. I like hand-drawn 2D (both vector and raster), 16-bit pixel art, 3D models used in a 2.5D fashion... I've just never been a big fan of pixelly looks, though I don't necessarily dislike them. The style lends itself to some games quite nicely. (Bombie Zombie, for example.)
I would pick hand-drawn, but for some reason games with those graphics seem... "floaty." It's hard to explain. Like collision detection is weird, and sometimes the animations are TOO fluent... And often the actual gameplay is a bit sacrificed. -__- But I like the effect. I couldn't pick my favorite.
As I am probably almost as old as Nim, I am really into the late 8-bit pixelart and 16-bit pixelart. It's also the only form of digital art I don't suck at. I like it because it looks and feels really balanced and together. Most other graphic styles give me a bit of a cut-and-paste feel.
Whatever style Metal Slug is, that's my favourite graphical style. That and Tyrian. Anything with almost over-the-top detailed pixel art, or just on a larger scale and not all 32x32 sprites.
3D stuff has to be really visually grabbing for me to like it, like Mirror's Edge. The level of abstraction and the way it helps identify gameplay elements is what really makes it. Lots of contrast is never a bad thing, either
I'm not sure I have a favorite art style, because each game has an art style that suits it best. Not to mention the fact that many people develop their own unique art style, so there's a humongous array to choose from. However, I think art styles like Braid or other highly detailed graphics are my favorite types.
I agree with those who said pre-rendered 3D sucks, and SNES graphics were the best
It's a shame though - we'll probably never see another game as beautiful as Chrono Trigger etc, just because 3D is so much easier (cheaper) for companies to make these days
Well, 3D's actually a lot more expensive to make. It takes a kid a month to do pixel art properly... I'd say it takes much, much longer than that to do 3D art. But then again, it's fast to animate. And it's really what most people want. I can ask 10 of my friends and easily 7 would say they like the latest graphics.
Personally, I like the realistic 256 color 2D ones more. The ones like in King's Quest or Betrayal at Krondor.

I think that 3D with a 2D plane is bad... Well except for a few games! SNES graphics were awesome. I'm really not sure about a full 3D game like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime. Sometimes the graphics work, and sometimes they don't. But I really like when that same graphics power used to make 3D is used to make beautiful 2D. I personally haven't played any of those games, but it could be like watching a cartoon or anime.
...now that you mention "cartoon or anime", I *do* really like some cell-shaded 3D graphics.
Although it wasn't a very good game, "Auto Modellista" does look fantastic (especially in motion).
Okami is beautiful. Everyone should play it. Okami is like zelda . . .except you're a wolf. . . and it beats the hell out of that sorry excuse for a 10/10 on every ****ing stupid review site that OoT gets.
Ive always been a fan of Rayman 1 graphics. Its a shame the industry moved to 3d because there is a big difference between the 2d capabilities of the 16 bit and 32bit machines.
It's also a pity that the majority of 2d games released nowadays are simply old emulated games instead of new games.
Hey, this new HD 2d sonic game might be the start of a new 2d revolution.
