You have to select an array file when it starts up (I included a small demo map).
Press 1/3/7/9 on the numpad to move the light source.
I was planning on using it for a Halloween comp entry, but I'm not sure I can be bothered now.
If anyone's interested, I'll post the source after I've cleaned it up a bit.
Thanks for the compliments.
Anyone have any ideas on what kind of agame it could be used for?
I wanted to make a dark, atmospheric game, but beyond that I've got nothing.
Well a haunted house comes to mind... But that may be too obvious. I know I could go with a nice creepy game where you see dim eyes and shapes lurking in the shadows, but when you move toward them, they're gone. >:}
Perhaps Rob Westbrook would be interested in collaborating with simetary! Awesome idea/name, awesome engine, awesome game!

Before you even asked, the isometric viewpoint and style (so far) made me think of the super ancient XCom games.
Too bad an X-Com clone is a bit beyond what I'm capable of...
IMO, the original X-Com (UFO:Enemy Unknown / UFO Defense) is the best game ever made
I love the turn based strategy, and the genuinely epic scale - covering everything from the actions of individual soldiers, to base construction and logistics, research and manufacturing, air-to-air combat, and even inter-dimensional travel - it's just amazing.
Plus, Chrysalids are pure awesomeness
TftD was good too - more scary because of the underwater setting - but should have been an expansion rather than a separate game.
Apocalypse sucked - they tried to jump on the RTS bandwagon, and while turn-based was still an option, it really just felt like an afterthought. The aliens were bland and unoriginal compared to those in the original games, and there wasn't the same sense of scale, now that you only had a single city to protect.
How I wish X-Com Genesis had seen the light of day - the unoffical clones (eg. Aftermath) are rubbish
Well, the third 3d UFO game afterlight is cool, but yeah, i agree the turn based ones were better. XCom apocalypse was good too, you could choose between turn or real time.
But, the 3 UFO games aren't QUITE as unofficial as you might think. All three UFO 3D games are in fact made by the same team who did XCom, they just don't own the IP on the xcom name anymore.
