Hi guys,

My current project is an RTS game. I have been trying to make support both both 800x600 resolution as well as 1024x768.
I was mainly doing this to increase game speed for weaker computers, but just wondering if I am wasting my time.
Does anyone even use 800x600 screen resolution now days? RTS games need big screen size so should I just stil to 1024x768 and be done with it?

I don't use 800x600.

I'd drop it. My current project uses a resolution of 1280x1024, so yeah.

I'm not sure how much of a performance hit bigger screensizes make. 1024x768 might be just fine for most people considering how fast the average computer it. Although I know there will always be people with older computers.
You might be able to increase performance in other areas instead.

With HWA I find that screen res doesn't matter much. In std mode there is a bit of lag if you have a lot going on.
This is only from my experience and I don't have a very fast computer.

Yep thats what I thought. Probably not using HWA because of the way I draw my background at runtime. I think I will focus on 1024x768, 800x600 is too small anyway. cheers

Just thought I'd mention really quick that a lot of netbooks nowadays have widescreens with a screen height just short of 768. It depends on the type of graphics you have, but if they aren't pixelly then it may look ok to go with 800x600 and scale up with antialiasing. Just a thought! I suppose you could do the opposite and just scale down...

And I just reread and realized you aren't using HWA. Nevermind!
