Ok I just started creating a basic topdown engine, and obviously I`m not a Klickguru.. becuse I`ve already done something wrong. There is nothing fancy, really. It`s very simple, just a tiny game I`m doing for a friend.

It could be my laptop (which is ...9years old) but I don`t have any other computer to try it on right now so please, check it out and maybe someone of you find something I did wrong.

The problem

Try walking around (arrow keys, you could try holding down shift while walking if you like).. I want it to scroll "smoothly" (ofc), but I experience alot of lag.. which is strange since I just started and I can`t see how these few events and actives could make the game lag.

I use mmf2.. and sorry about megaupload, I didn`t know any other place to upload it.

the problem seems like your laptop simply isnt powerful enough to scroll a window the size of 660x500 in 16 million colours mode. Its not that your laptop is crap or anything, just that MMF2's runtime is a bit inefficient at scrolling.

First things first see if using less colours speeds it up a bit. If its still too slow you might want to consider using a smaller in game resolution.

I used to get lag on my desktop when I scrolled in MMF 1.5. That computer is about 9 years old aswell. So it is probably just your laptop, like AndyUK said.

Thanks guys! If it`s my laptop (I figured it was), it´s not really a problem since I`m not the one who is supposed to play the game. Playtesting might be a pain in the *** though.. =

Now when you mention it I don`t think I`ll need 16million colors since I`ll try go for an oldschool feeling anyway. If that does not cut it I guess I use another resolution as you said.

Does anyone of you exactly which colors the snes used? I`d like it to look snes..

Thanks agan!
