I don't get it
What's the point?
Is it really just for people too old/dumb to understand computers?
As far as I can tell, an iPhone is better at most things, and a netbook better at everything*.
*The iPad is slimmer and lighter, but still in the same category of "smaller than a laptop, but still nowhere near pocket-sized", so in practical terms it's no better.
Email: No keyboard
Video Messaging: No webcam/skype
Browsing: Not flash compatible
Movies: Non-widescreen display; Very limited storage (max is 64GB, min is 16GB!!); No HDMI out
Audio: Too big to replace ipods etc; Can't listen to music while using other apps
Photos: No USB ports or card slots
Work: Can't run Windows programs; No keyboard
Portability: Not pocket-sized
Cost: Much more expensive than netbooks; Adapters, Keyboard etc cost extra
So will it be a huge flop, or is the Apple badge enough to sell anything? Or maybe I'm missing something?
I would be less critical of it if they just called it the iPod Touch Jumbo instead of a grand innovation. At this point, it's gone so far on the meh-o-meter that I don't care enough to even point out what's wrong with it.
It's kind of cool in some ways, but missing way too many things that should be standard.
I don't see why you'd want an iPad either. It can't play music and other apps at the same time? The iPod touch can do that. You'd think they wouldn't downgrade...
Also, I did read a news article citing a moment in the demo vid where they use the Safari browser and you can see a working flash applet, but it has been said that it doesn't use flash so they'll probably remove such functionality if it exists.
It looks well guff on paper, but then again I was skeptical about the iPod Touch before I actually used one - and I ended up buying it. I think the iPad looks alright and I think there's a market for it. I think Apple will do alright with this. Don't underestimate how much people will want the latest technology just to look like the people they see in commercials.
I recall reading from somewhere that almost all iPhone and iPod touch apps run on iPad so that should mean also that Clickteam's upcoming iPhone runtime should be compatible with iPad as well. The product itself was a disappointment based on what I've seen (haven't actually used it by myself yet), but from developer's perspective it's good to have larger install base for the future.
Why do people say there is no keyboard? Iphone has a keyboard, it is an overlay with keys mapped onto it. I am sure the Ipad has the same thing. Sure its not really practical for emails and stuff though.
No Flash? I think they will incorporate it soon, my Iphone has flash.
I can see this only being useful for tech-heads or people who want to play iphone games on a bigger screen.
Yeah, it's good for e-books. And surfing the net while in bed. I'd rather lie in bed with a light iPad on my lap than a heavy, hot laptop. Too bad it's not cheap.

A keyboard dock is completely pointless - the whole idea is that it's meant to be portable. Touchscreen keyboard things are fine for a quick text message, but completely impractical for anything more than that. They should figure out a way to build-in one of those laser projected keyboards
If you only want to read ebooks, you'd be better off getting something with an e-ink display.
People might figure out a way to allow the iPad to view flash content, but Apple certainly never will - they want people to keep buying apps from their store instead.
I guess "surfing the web in bed" is a valid reason for buying one

I think a better question is, "Can it run games better than a netbook?"
