Why not award people with a copy of MMF or discounts to purchase click products if they reach several amounts of points?

I mean, you could buy a discount with DC points or even full product!
Let's say, 10,000 DC points for purchasing MMF 2, or at least copy of The Games Factory 2

If not, than a discount coupon for Click team products as they have such discount bar on their site I know, when you enter a product name... Why not having about 20 to 45% discount for about 2000DC Points, along with all other exiting features?

Dc points have no monotery value, so if one was able to purchase something with them it would require actual money from another source. And since there is barly enough money to even pay for the server this will never happen.

Sorry.

We barely have enough money to keep the site running - nevermind buying people copies of MMF2

How about TDC merchandise?

You could be selling some TDC items for a combination of points and money. Or just money, which seems a better idea to me.

I might buy a discounted copy of TGF2 but doesn't almost everyone has his or her favorite copy of their game creation tool?

I think you should be able to buy a place in the daily spotlight with points.

If people could buy real life stuff with points then they would be considered to have a monetary value. In that case TDC would be responsible for safeguarding said points, and could be in legal trouble in case the site gets hacked/database crashes, or similarly.

DC points are dangerous, they can be printed on a whim. We have DC point inflation!

Hmmm I didn't think of that, the no monetary value policy is a good thing.

But what about Hayo's proposal? Or will that have as a side effect that everyone want's to put up his thing on the frontpage and then the frontpage is overloaded?

Could be solved by auctioning out spots, instead of selling at a fixed price. Problem is when people buy spots they would want them instantly, rather than waiting for an auction to finish.

I am starting to like that idea. There are many ways to held an auction, this wiki explains it all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auction

I think an auction with a time limit of about a week should do, no wait, two weeks might be better. Then you have an auctioned front page post every two weeks which could contain an entry.

There probably have to be additional rules like: must be something new and not a recently posted entry.

Not sure how to fix the instant thing, but with a time limit your can always prepare your entry.

I already tried suggesting the idea... at least two or three times, and it's yet to get much response from users or admins. I made a post about it in another thread which I linked to above, it even shows a small concept image.

Not sure if I am right, misread or overlooked something in that big thread. But isn't the idea of a VIP banner like an advertisement for points different from an auction to get a mention on the front page?

But we can also extend that idea with an extra advertisement spot like the VIP banner which can be sold. Some sort of new from of donation or is it just called: sponsoring?

What about a custom tag, like the avatar only tagsized, which can be bought for 2500 points? The custom tag should be a link to an 16x16 image.

I like Hayo's idea - maybe an auction if the banner gets cluttered

Lol, this is why. I don't do it, and most admins avoid it, but it can happen. It's not really about an admin printing out DC points to buy MMF2, it's about accusations that he did

Also, the spotlight should be there to highlight interesting games. But when games aren't interesting enough, do we cycle? If you buy a place in it, does it mean that we should kick out a good game just because you bought a place? Or what if lots of people buy a spot at the same time?

Giving it a real use would be a dangerous idea. At the very least, it needs to be impossible for admins to print out more points.

I'd rather it be used as a kind of semi-useful currency. I used to hire out people to draw graphics (and my avatar) and paid them in DC points. IMHO, tags are kinda useless, having more of them makes them less valuable.
