Has anyone ran any tests on the speed of Flash games exported by MMF? I'd be interested in hearing about how multiple layers, actives, window size, colour depth (etc) affects the runtime speed. Thanks!

I haven't done any comprehensive tests but in terms of max. amount of active objects we could say that if a non-HWA exe can support e.g. 800 bouncing balls on screen at the same time without slowdow, then in flash this number is maybe 200. So that might give you an overall idea about actives, obviously varies a lot by many game specific factors. Scaling and rotating cause more slowdown than normally, if applied to large objects e.g. on always condition.

DavidN's Gravqx is probably the smoothest fast-paced scrolling flash game Ive seen so far (with flash runtime for MMF2), not sure how many layers it uses but I was pretty impressed with the speed when I first played it.

Yeah that seems to work well. Now I'd like to see a game which is slow.

I haven't used Flash that much yet, but it seems pretty darn fast so far! I read on the Clickteam forums that loops run slower, but only for really intense calculations. I'm not sure about the other things you've mentioned, but basically yeah, no slowdown for a reasonable game.

That is quite a big promise, have to disagree on that (though "reasonable" is of course a subjective term... ). Yes, overall the flash runtime performance is very smooth (kudos to CT!) but you don't exactly have to do "miracles" to end up having a slowdown which would not happen in exe (with decent up-to-date system). For this you might need to alter screen size, number of actives, scaling/rotating events and such. But it shouldn't be any major issue.

MJK - Yes, to be fair I haven't stress tested Flash or used it all that much. So I was just being optimistic , but,as you mentioned, I have no doubt that it will slowdown in situations where the exes wouldn't.
