Since webmasters use to forbid it, we found ourself often without being able to comment what we think for real about artworks for example, means that we hold things inside.
The result is getting fake comments and oppinions in reviews.
There is no point using much different words than claiming that something is terribly suck ass.
Heh, I kinda see it like a "strict" parent berating his kids. The kids get lots of warnings, but nobody has the heart to do any real action. Even "bans" on TDC aren't permanent, just sort of like grounding them. (except for Phizzy's ban)
You'll find that most of the fake comments and opinions coming from fear of other members than fear of the admins themselves. People have taken to a bit of vigilante justice around here and they actually report people who vote less than 3 stars. I think like Hayo's said, instead of people saying "this sucks", they just say "meh, I don't care".
I sort of wish people could voice their opinions, but be nice about it. Some of the nicer members say "this sucks, but... you can do X to make it better" or at the very least "this sucks, but i hope your next game is better". Negative criticism is pointless.
Someone did a little social experiment here, purposely made sucky games, and only got very positive comments for it. He's made some far better games with a different account and got slightly less positive reviews. You guys decide what to make of it.

Which is retarded. If people can't rate games as they wish then why have the feature in the first place? 5 star ratings doesn't mean anything, as they are given away too easily. 4 star ratings are worth more, because at least those are honest.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
I think you need to accept 3 stars as being a good score, then you won't mind giving out 1's as you know it's not a personal attack because your scoring is consistant and fair. Most people think average scores mean that the game is very bad, just like when you were at school and you thought scores around 60% mean't that the game was crap! (i know i did)
James Luke, for example, is someone i think has come a long way - i remember giving Death Giver 1 stars, yet his sequel was a million times more fun and considering the small file size, i defo recommend it to anyone, hence why i gave it 4 stars.
There should be a way for users to change their current rating IMO. Then they can change their mind after a bad first impression, or after realizing the game wasn't as good as it initially seemed.
And if people are so butthurt about the zero star rating then why does it still exist?

IMO, i don't think it's the zero stars that offends people on here, it's more the fact that they come up with little constructive reasoning behind such a stinging score. At the same time, i think good reasoning should be behind 5-star scores too.... however not many people find those as offending.
Actually people assume anything below 4 stars is just people being meanie pants.
You know, considering we're all into making games as well as playing them you'd expect people to have a little knowledge on all aspects of game design. But often games are rated low or indeed high for one single pathetic reason.
Games might be rated high because the creator is popular, games might be rated low because the person commenting happens to have played millions of games in the same genre recently and is now bored with them.
All right so 3 stars is middle of road you say? Well that makes sense, but not in a context where A is good, B is all right and C is failing. I consider 4 stars to be good, 5 stars excellent and 3 horrible.
Awesomeness is Watermelon.
