3 Days ago one of the admins on BioWare's massive social network forums, announced that Mass Effect would be ruined in the eyes of the fans. He didn't choose those words though. He went with "Mass Effect Movie announced!" ... Sad news indeed, if we have any BioWare/Mass Effect fans how does this strike you?

I don't have a problem with movies based on games if they're good. And I know they rarely are, but if it turns out well then fine by me

I love Bioware / Black Isle's Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale but that's as far as I've followed them.

BioWare had nothing to do with Icewind Dale though.
And indeed, the Forgotten Realms games are rather excellent.

Whoops!

But yeah, for me D&D will always be about the Forgotten Realms and the 2nd Edition ruleset. My first non-pen and paper D&D game was the Curse of the Azure Bonds goldbox SSI job and it got me hooked.. Even if they did give Clerics & Paladins a turn undead skill that was totally useless in that particular game (There was a grand total of ONE undead in the whole game and it's a friggin' Dracolich- and good luck turning that!)

Games and movies are two very different things.
Games = entertainment by interacting with the world
Movies = entertainment by doing nothing and seeing other people interact

What's good for one is very bad for the other. That's why almost every movie based on a game has been horrible. Game characters just don't have a fleshed out background most of the time and come through very shallow in movies. Movies are limited to a few sets, don't have a fleshed out world and just fall through there.

Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.

I always thought Mortal Kombat did a good job of pleasing the fans of the game, and was a pretty good brainless-action film in it's own right.

Anyone seen the FarCry film??

FarCry movie was pure crap, so was Doom, and Mario movie (rofl).

At least Doom had that huge man (The Rock) saying "Big Fawking Gun."
That was funny

Dont think that a movie from a game will ever be good, at least as the game itself. But, oh well, it might happen

Being a fan of Mass Effect, I'm met with mixed feelings about this announcement. ME has probably the best potential for transitioning to the silver screen but all the video game based movies prior to this lean me to believe this won't get the care it deserves. I feel it won't be possible for them throw all the depth and complexity of what the series is into a 2-3 hour movie without having to severely cut down a lot of aspects of the movie, such as character development which was some of my favorite parts of the games.
