Isn't there some clause somewhere that forbids third party development tools being used for the iPod? Perhaps I imagined that.

there might be a way through the process of Jailbreaking. I'll check out Cydia on my iPod now to see if there's anything either in Java or Flash support.

Okay here's what I've found:

Jailbroken Only:
iMobileCinema: allows you to play flash videos in Safari. It's an internet plug-in for your iPod

Regular iPod:
Cloud Browse (free app on AppStore): Acts as a VLC server that looks like safari but has stuff like flash enabled. Looking at the videos, the games seem possible. Unfortunately Hulu does not work. There is an error message saying that your IP is not allowed (the server isn't in America). There's a youtube video showing a kid playing the secret Pac Man flash game in google and it works. They have special arrow keys in the touch keyboard.

That's for flash. Not sure of Java much. I've looked around a bit and it seems that graphical java isn't supported but the code works. Not sure. So if you build a flash game and post it on the internet, you may be able to play it on your iPod Tocuh. Hope it helps

you are forgetting what was already said about mmf, and what that clause actually says about the iphone sdk.

iirc

they made a new rule that says games submitted to the app store must follow certain rules and use only "allowed" development environments, libraries, sdks, etc.

that being said, mmf2 will not export a final product but just output an XCode project for you to compile on a mac that meets those guidelines.

Hahaha, silly... don't you know? When you buy any Apple product, you sell away your right to have anything fun and innovative that didn't come from their minds. It might skew the user experience. God forbid you should spend that $100-$10,000 device and want to use it the way you want to use it instead of the way Apple intends you can use it.

Cecil, is that true!?!?

So why all the hubub about adobe flash converting to iPhone app then? Is adobe going to compile the whole project instead of just code that you then compile elsewhere?

Theres already an app that lets you play Flash videos on a non-hacked Android devices. It's called Skyfire and it's free. Also, you cannot compile anything for the new iPhone OS4 unless you use the Apple approved software developer kit now. They changed it up because they were tired of people making something once and porting it to Android and iPhone. A real damn shame considering half of all the shit given to Apple users is ported from the PC, and then they're going to pull a dick move like this. My distaste for Apple is far more informed then petty fanboyism.
