I'm sure there's one to top it, but the BFG9000 (original version) is satisfyingly badass. [tschik-iszhik] FWAAAAOOOMMMMM! In fact I like most DooM sounds, especially monster deaths.
Worst? There was this one sounds in Half Life 1 deathmatch, I think it was the item respawning sound. Part of it was a really grating buzz sound, usually louder than anything else, especially when a group of items spawned at the same time. Snarks got pretty annoying, too, though hilarity usually balanced it out
Yeah, the Doom sounds are definitely some of my favorite ever.
Buuut I think my favorite sound effect has to be the death sound from the NES-styled Mega Man games. It gets extra cool points because bosses use the exact same sound. :3
In a close second, I rather like the hilarious sound effect that plays when you collect a piece of chicken in Tekken 3's beatemup minigame.
Worst sound effect? Tough call, but I'd probably go with the cliff racers from Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Eeeuurgh. >.<

Worst, SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM. But I'll definitely go with the "electric spark" sfx used in so many old movies and low-budget games. Even in newer ones. It pisses me off that they still use that sh*t tbh.
I always liked the sound that's made when you don your goggles in Splinter Cell.
The sounds that really annoy me is when someone is using a minigun but they devs use a machine gun sound fx >_<.
(Now I have to wonder if they got it right in Predator, the first movie I saw with a minigun in it.)

The sound in LoZ when you find a secret, and the menu scroll and select sounds from Tekken 3. Its like Beep Beep Beep GJOOM. Oh yeah and the announcer from Tekken 3. Hes like KAYOOOO YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU WIIIIIIIIIIIIN.. FIIIIINALL

Yep, they make it on the list of games whose quality and aesthetics I would one day like to be a part of creating something similar to. (There's a tongue twister for ya)
Sly 2 is the best, and 3 is a close second. The first one was okay but it's a different type of game.
I wish Sucker Punch would make the 4th one already. Even though I don't have a PS3. I'd get the PSP version though.
