Hey guys, I have a friend who needs to interview 4-7 people.
This is her own personal words:
[20:42:08] WillWill: give me a couple sentences on what kind of people you are looking for to interview
[20:42:54] yini: the people who are active on the virtual community relating to videogame industry
[20:43:20] yini: because our main research object is the visual community
[20:43:45] yini: as a platform for developers
[20:44:31] yini: to search help and make videogames
[20:44:54] yini: we will compare it with the professional studio
[20:45:16] yini: because we thought it possess some advantages
She is studying for a financial master degree of some (I always forget the fine-printed name for it), so unfortunately this is not for a newspaper or something like that. Her english is a tad bit rusty, but she's a very dedicated person who has learned to speak english in less than a year. Her questions are also very intellectual.
HOWEVER, I had her interview me and I feel that it was very rewarding to have someone ask you about your personal opinions in the game-making community.
If you are interested (which you should be!), send a PM to me and I can make it happen! I'm not picky either, so don't hesitate about your own skills.
I would have nothing but negative things to say . I could state a fair opinion, but everyone would despise it anyway because of the general mindset of this community.
This person is interviewing alot of people just to get her facts right. She's already interviewed a 14 year old, 21 year old and someone who is somewhat older and I'm sure they all had their differences.

Looking at your submitted games I wouldn't exactly say you have even the most miniscule amount of room to speak.
What does this have to do with me making games anyway? I haven't finished a game so I don't really see how you can assume something like that.
The truth is that I can't stand about 99% of this community as a whole. I've been around TDC for ages. Just about everyone here has almost zero standards for themselves when it comes to game creation and some use the "its my hobby" line as an excuse for that. Almost every game that gets submitted here that has way below mediocre gameplay, but decent/great graphics (1/1,000,000 ha) automatically gets rave reviews and tons of attention. Bugs are of no concern to most. You guys aren't critical of anything even when it is needed most.
I can recall maybe 2-3 games from this website since the beginning that I've actually enjoyed/been interested in. I can't think of one that didn't have some major flaws/bugs that aren't even difficult to avoid in most cases. Thats not many games for almost 10 years.
There are lots of amazing coders on this website, yet I have seen none of them release a good game.
I guess it isn't the people here, for the most part at least, just the mindset like I mentioned before.
This is mainly a site for amateur game designers, so of course there isn't going to be any 5/5 masterpieces (with maybe a rare exception). Of course Valve or Blizzard (or whatever) aren't going to post their games here.
Yeah yeah I know, but I expect people to hold higher standards for themselves than they seem to. I would much rather see a couple of excellent games from here than play anything made by Blizzard, as I'm not much of a fan for newer-styled games and the such.

Hm.
One wonders what you're still doing here after 10 years if it's so unbearable.
What the hell are you on about? The games on here are on a very broad range of quality, from the sublime epic games like GunGirl2, Bonesaw, Knytt, HatMan, Survivor and Luor (to name a few) to the quirky, flawed-gems and non-commercial attempts like Lake Queen, Splotches, Coal and Death Giver 2, to the interesting newbie games that you just know ooze enthusiasm from their makers rather than skill and knowledge, like Evasion 2.0 and The Terminator: Hunter Killer.
This site has hundreds and hundreds of games of all genres and any gaming fan should be able to find somthing they like or find interesting, concept-wise. I play new games from this site every week, as well as enjoy a healthy diet of new and retro console and PC games in between.
I had an interview with her. She needs to interview people and ask them questions about the community and how its beneficial and what not. You guys should give it a go, she's pretty nice
Maybe you could send personal invitations to some of the older timers, like Rikus, Circy, DaVince, BrandonC, Adam, etc. I think that their confident, well-pondered opinions will give good insights into the community.
