Being a new-ish dad, it's made me seriously think about how far we can interact with computer games as technology increases every year. This trailer really gripped me. It put the sh*tters up me as my mind began to place me in the video as the dad, and my daughter being the one screaming. Maybe my imagination is running away with me or maybe fatherhood really has taken that strong a grip on me, i dunno. What i will say though, is that 18 months ago i would have been frothing at the mouth to play this after watching the trailer, yet now all i can think about is my little girl.

Anyway, the trailer does look fab and is pretty original, the way it was directed. Watch it:

It looks like another boring zombie game. Nothing about it looks original. Sure, they blag it with some artistic editing, but when it boils down to it they're hardly pushing the creative boundaries.

It is a common thing in fatherhood. I have heard many young dads say how they can't stand children in pain or danger (in for example movies) since they got a kid.

@Hayo, that is exactly how it is these days with me. It is the weirdest thing ever!

As for the game, i'm not sure how it'll play. I don't think the video gives away much about the gameplay at all but from what (little) i know about it, it looks right up my street. It kinda reminds me of FarCry on PC, but with zombies.

I loved FarCry and i love zombies.

@adam - I know what you mean, i've always been a dog (and other pets) person, but being a dad is something completely different.

i have to admit the trailer blew me away. ive been waiting for this game for ages and ive always been checking on it so i am amazed there is finally an update on it and BOY what an update it is.

the trailer is just epic. wonderful CGI graphics and the music is just perfect. its great to use music with a totally different mood to add epicness to something that could become cheesy if you ... i dont know... add fast "action" music to it.

so they did a great job on the trailer.

the screenshots look also sexy so i am VERY VERY excited about getting to play this.

we need MOAR zombie games. that zombie mall game with DEAD in it's name ... well it was nice and part 2 had really sexy and slick graphics and I was amazed how smoothly it still went with all those objects at run time but it was just the same all over again (part 1 and 2) and kinda boring. sure its fun to try out all the different weapons and build new ones but meh I rather want an EPIC story driven game and DEAD ISLAND seems to be just that!

also beach + sun + zombies = HELL YEH!

it doesn't always need to be dark and eeary and yeh resident evil 5 wasnt that great because of all the sun and no shadows. RE4 was so much better / creepier.

Just to pull my own leg in terms of being scientificist, evolution does account for this new-found fear parents have of children in danger. I don't have, nor plan to, have any children, but you don't need such a radical happening to remind you of your primate condition. Interesting that it should manifest itself through videogames or literature, seeing that they're not "real" (in the sense of how they lack the effect of permanency "real" life gives in such situations--losing a child, parent or friend). We are strange gods tormented by death.

That trailer is amazing! It definitely piqued my interest in the game. So I looked it up, hoping that it's not just another zombie game... but it turns out that it very disappointingly is. ffff etc

Marko, I completely understand what you're saying. Similarly, I recently played Bioshock 2 and it turned out to be one of my favourite games of this generation. With such big boots to fill, and being the sequel to the game that supposedly didn't need a sequel, it never got the credit it was due. 2 years ago I would've just gunned through it, but it plays the parent/child aspect very well. As with the first game, there are moral choices to be made, but this time you make them with the responsibility of a parent. Definitely give that game a shot if you have time.

This reminds me of Brian in Family guy, when he finds his son.
