I find it very useful in describing the best behaviour in a situation that could otherwise go downhill very, very quickly. There's actually a review linked to the article, and reading that was a hoot....It basically lays out what not to do when confronted with someone who doesn't like your efforts for one reason or another.
I think a lot of Klickers could benefit from reading this article. Hope you do! I found it very well worth the five minutes spent reading it.
If that's the case, Pixelthief... Based upon some of the responses seen on this very website in the recent past, I'd say several users here could be considered "culturally insensitive."
I think everyone engaged in their own creative pursuits should read it. Of course one's mileage may vary, but in my opinion it's well worth the five minutes it takes to read.
Additionally, I hope it encourages people to elaborate more on their own critique of games, engines, and other efforts, as opposed to a simple "this game rox" or "this game sux."
Heh, I learned how to deal with criticism from TDC and the klik community. The great thing is that you get the right to act like a 13 year old when you're actually 13
Everyone does get criticism. I normally thank people for constructive criticism and ignore purely negative ones. Maybe correct them if they seem to have misunderstood something, but if they're just looking to start a fight, then they get ignored.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
I'd love to see a bit more information about that (so that I can see the connection).
Yeah, I didn't really see the connection either. People seem to have a legitimate beef regarding James' histrionics.
I'm talking about a few horrid exchanges occurring on various threads, even as recent as this year. Generally speaking, I really wish people could take a deep breath, walk away from the computer, and come back to it with a clear head, then type their replies. It only makes them look childish, regardless of the effort and/or talent evident in their work. The end result is that they burn bridges with people they could have partnered with sometime down the road.

Problem is it isn't James as much as it is boss baddie fan boys on this site. Heck, James doesn't even submit his games, they get plugged on the front page anyway.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
Reading that trainwreck of a comment thread was quite enjoyable!
I think the advice given in that article is good. The indie games scene seems to attract a lot of less-than-helpful, anonymous comments.
I don't see why it has anything to do with the Boss Baddie news comments. It's frustrating to see that he canceled his main project to make those other games but I've no real problem with the guy.
Do you think we could have a Constructive Criticism forum here? I know it's a long shot, but we could try temporarily replacing one of the unused sections (Picture Me This) for a criticism thread. I'd use it. Just an idea!
