If I had to pick just one, then it's a really tough choice... but I would definitely say Action-Adventure. With the right combination of fight sequences and exploration, it's easier for me to get immersed into that type of game than others.
Grand strategy. As in the kind of games where you have really complicated plans and tons of choices to take over the world. Otherwise TBS, or the RPG ones.
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Or you could just get it from an abandonware site - after all, it is 15+ years old now...
"Terror From the Deep" is basically the same game, but with different graphics. It's a shame it wasn't released as an extension pack instead - I love the underwater missions and some of the new aliens, but overall I prefer the original weapons and aliens (Chrysalids are much cooler than Tentaculats, even if they can't fly/swim).
I think anyone who knows just a little about me would know I happen to prefer platformers. Whether they're 2D or 3D, I'm a great fan of most of the genre
My top three genres are:
- shoot-em-ups/shmups
- turn-based strategy
- real-time strategy
Shmups with upgradeable ships based on player input & performance are the most entertaining for me. I was weaned on The Guardian Legend, Xevious, R-Type, Image Fight, and Life Force.
On the flipside, turn-based strategy games with fantasy elements are also very high on the list. I have fond memories of Warlords III from my youth, and I am firm in my belief that Stronghold: Crusader and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic are two of the best games ever made (particularly AoW multiplayer!).
