I love windows 7's version of ms paint. just curious as to if any of you guys use it too. i like to make my basic sprites in paint than use photoshop to add effects to it. what else is good for making sprites? i mean, obviously theres paint, photoshop, and a few others, but theres a lot i havnt heard of im sure.

I dislike the built in editor, i just find it difficult to use. i started with ms paint and when 7 came out and they updated it, i was pretty excited. i think its easiest to use, especially for pixel art. ive used paint.net, and gimp before. not a big fan of either, never tried pixelformer or graphics gale.

Try using GraphicsGale. It's free, for the most part, and allows for animation. You'll get instantly better at spriting.

The build-in editor would be perfect for me if it was not one pixel off.

why dont you like the new version cecil? i find it easier to use, than the already super easy versions from xp and before.
Ill give graphics gale a try since you say it allows for animation. can you make animated gif's with it? cuz that would be cool. its too complex to make animated gif's in photoshop for me to care seeing as i dont "need" to make animated gifs.

I also do my pixel art in ms paint. I use animagic gif to make my animated gifs. I really don't need anything else. (Unless there was a program that could zoom in closer then paint can.. make things easier on the eyes.)
I was the same way as you; when I went from XP to Vista I remember hating the new paint, although I honestly forgot way. I deleted the program and was able to download the xp version. After that, everything was cool again.

Im not understanding what you all dont like about new paint, i think it simply has more features and is as easy to use as the first, but everyone has different opinions i suppose. i dont remember vista's paint, was it the same as windows 7's paint?

I use MS Paint exclusively for my stuff, Win XP and before. I haven't used Windows 7 ever so I don't know how they screwed it up

one of the new "features" of ms paint 7 i absolutely abhor is how every tool makes an "element" that is automatically selected, and if you don't click off of it FAR enough away from it, click and drag movement to make a new element will MOVE the last one. Drawing multiple of any sort of line or box / shape is a wretched sonofabitch.
