Awesome! I'm really envious . . . I can't do character designs at all .
I think the room needs some more spice though, it looks rather bland at the moment. Maybe another color to brighten it up. . . . maybe some torches/foliage/lights/beams/cracks/barrels .
@Nim: There's actually a ton of more info, I've been planning/writing/drawing/spriting/programming on and off for quite some time on this idea. It's one of those dream projects of mine, that's the only reason I've returned to the idea during the years. I've been hesitant to make a project page about it until I had something more substantial to show in terms of screens and such.
To sum up the story:
"The Tale of a Mystic Knight
on a Quest
To Save a Loved One..."
As I said, Wonderboy-ish/Medtroidvania-ish.
The player explores the different areas/dungeons, finding new items and abilities to unlock new areas.
The game will be focused on exploration with arcade feel fighting using several different types of weapons, attacks and sub-weapons as our hero unravels the mystery surrounding the strive for the missing loved one.
I'll give a real description when I make that project page.
@GamesterXIII: Glad to hear you like the design! The room does indeed need a LOT more spice. One of the aspects of the game will be exploration, so each area and every room will be unique and enjoyable in it's own way. The current room is simply one step up from single colored blocks to test the engine.
@Adamamn those Lego people!
"Heroica" has been my project name for this idea for a long time before Lego(obviously through espionage) sToLe mY NaMe!!1
JK, though I have to admit that I got quite stumped when I first saw Lego's Heroica series.
About that, do you people think I should/could keep the name? I've grown quite attached to it through the years, and it fits the theme of Heroism rather well.
All and Any input is welcome.
It's always fun to end posts with a screen, so Cheers!
It sounds like you're going for a more non-linear, Wonderboy 3/Metroidvania feel. I have a lot of love for Wonderboy 2 personally, I'd love to try doing something like that sometime; in fact, there's already a great klik game in the style called Wandering Fighter
Never done a vid before actually, so I'll look into that after I've mopped up the last details on a particular animation.
Also, realized that keeping "Heroica" as name would cause some confusion, plus the fact that there's that little 'tm' at Lego, so I decided to name it properly.
It's now called...!
H€RÖIKA!
...
Ha ha, no, It's actually called "Road To Damascus".
Thanks for all comments!
I'll be back when I'm raging over how the h*** to make a vid.
Very cute sprites. Kind reminds me of something, but I'm not sure what - "Wonder Woman" but with blonde hair?
And technically that's a flail, not a mace.
Anyway, good job - I look forward to seeing how this turns out
I'd stick with the "Heroica" name - Lego didn't invent the name, and your product is different enough that it wouldn't infringe on their copyright in any way.
Actually, it has a solid shaft, so I believe it is in fact a mace(a flail being more ball'n'chain-ish).
(The solidness of the shaft doesn't really translate well in the angle seen in the picture though)
I'm gonna think hard about the name. I've been referring to it as Heroica since I first came up with it, but Road to Damascus would be a very clever title so to speak, since it involves the all so important story at several layers. Perhaps keep RtD as an undertitle? Don't know really
But thanks for your input!
Glad you like it!
It looked like a chain in the first pic, but I stand corrected
I like how you colour-coordinated your debugging counters - considering how many people release finished games using the default counter for scores/lives/etc...
