With the developing phase at an end I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted and/or participated. You can see the entries here:
http://ebbc.dk/compo/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13&p=21#p21
We had about 20 votes for themes and 3 entries.
I would appreciate it if you guys could tell us a bit about your thoughts.
- What made you want to participate, or what made you not want to?
- Was there anything where you couldn't figure out what to do (like how to vote, participate etc.) ?

I was a bit confused if the funky title provided was something we have to use, or just an example or whatever. I went with it anyway, hoping i understood something for once in my life. The uploading seemed a bit confusing too since i could not even directly just register to that other forum thing, but i just followed what everyone else was doing and uploaded it and posted it here.
El Stimor was here.

Making everyone name their game the same thing and with their name in it wasn't very fun. Also, having all those threads in that extraneous forum just added complication. The entire competition would have fit fine in one TDC thread.
Thumbs up for stirring activity! Next time, you should only allow unusual themes in the voting process, like grass, lemonade, bow ties, and quail!

Something ive always noticed is how tight time limits don't work very well for various reasons.
People aren't always able to make time for a specific time frame. Also the games are going to be crap one way or the other.
I know there were a few silly MAKE A GAME IN 13 MINUTES competitions but that was a few guys dicking about on messenger who were all there ready and available. The games were a joke.
So long as there isn't a cash prize involved you can easily get away with something more open to get as many people onboard as possible. Something that's open to a bit of a cheat so long as people submit something. You know?
Ive tried to get a CONSOLE WARS competition going a few times without much luck. Yet there are always people making posts months later saying they think it's a fantastic idea and want to get involved.

The timing was the worst possible for me, though it's not the compo's fault. Maybe next time just get rid of the title thing, and make it have multiple themes only
All your base are in another castle, take this.

People love those Competitions where we make games look like Nes games, right?
thats all the theme needs to be. Or Atari 2600, MSX, ZX Spectrum etc.
Or a fan game competition? Of either one of your favourite click games or a commercial game. There's so many games I can think of that i'd like to give a go.
Also of course, there's the 'console wars' idea ive come up with several times before where there's a Console released to compete with the 8 bit computers/consoles of the early to mid 80's. The entrants have to come up with a launch lineup of AAA games within the limitations of the console's capabilities. There's limited Palette options, Unique objects, Filesize, etc.

I didn't really like the name requirement, but that wouldn't have stopped me entering.
I think the other forum just makes things over-complicated too - one or two TDC forum threads is enough really. Just do what someone else suggested, which was for entrants to submit links to their games, and for the organisers to download them all at the deadline, and re-upload them somewhere else so they can't be further modified after the deadline (not that cheating should be much of an issue anyway in a quick, fun competition with no prizes).
The reason I didn't enter is that it was really just bad timing - I'm always busy at the weekends, and last weekend was especially hectic for me.
It's a good idea to keep the contest short so people don't get over-ambitious, but I now wonder if 2 days might be too short - a lot of people will probably miss it all together because they're busy. I guess if it were more like a week, then most people probably wouldn't be able to spare more than a couple of days in that time span - it would effectively be like a 2-day contest, except that people get to choose which two days.

Thank you all for your input.
So far SMR and I have agreed that the compo will be expanded so development time is a week. I'll be removing the forum too, though it wasn't supposed to act like a forum at all but merely a way for me to quickly set up a website.
I'll be making a much simpler site. My goal with that will be to put all the needed information on one page.
The forced name thing will also be made a thing of the past.
The attention people have shown has made me confident that I should keep trying. We're hoping to try again in the middle of March.

I would have loved to have participated, just like I want to get in on some glorious trainwreck stuff, but asdly, my only time for anything game making related can be as little as an hour a week, with job, family. Unfortunately that time is also allocated for playing games. When I've got a quick 45 minutes, I'm on my PS3, I prefer at least an hour or two to do anything click related so I can have some time "in the zone". I'm down to one basic click project iOS game, that will likely take me at least another month of heavy work (in the time I have).
Five years ago? I would have been all over this
I love what you guys are doing, I honestly, truly do. I hope that you guys can keep it up and foster new members to keep this thing going. The clickteam forums are very nice, but they are more technically minded; every other klik site has pretty much come and gone. The competitions, the weird games, all the stuff going on in the forums here at TDC is what keeps this site alive. We've made the mistake of not fostering the next generation, but I see new members popping up all the time despite that.
Craps, I'm an old man!

I echo same the same sentiments as Shab, I got into the click community when I was about 15 (on a defunct community site with other clickers such as Hayo, Jenswa, Tomatoman, Buster, Ashman etc). I had a lot more time back then, but awful game making skills.
I am now getting horrendously close to 30, and most time I have these days is spent writing my PhD thesis, working on my company, or going out to wind down. That said, my skills are better now . I was working this weekend unfortunately, or I would have had a go at entering this compo.
TDC used to really foster newbies in its own peculiar way, GOTW/GOTM and amazing amounts of reviews and comments on downloads and projects. Sadly, I think as Shab says in many ways we failed to bring up the next generation. What is left of the old generation either has moved on to other pastures or they have "big game fever". The days of enough projects per week to hold a GOTW competition I think are sadly gone, and maybe gone forever. Until there is a large influx of new clickers, I can not see it happening.
Anyway, I would love to see another compo soon, perhaps we could get some prize backing either from CT or elsewhere. I love simplicity, so a do what you want in 1 or 2 weeks under this theme (say a console war) type of affair appeals to me. I think just a time limitation is wise, we tried to stop big game fever grabbing hold in the funtition by limiting what people could use but you can never please everyone
This was a proper old man Hagar ramble. Peace.

getting close to 30? yeah me too... Been doing this Klik lark since 2001.
Still... improving all the time when i get a chance to open up MMF2 and mess about. Just need to put that into an actual game sometime.
What might be good is a little competition where we have to make a GOOD fangame to destroy the old myth that they all suck.

I feel the same. I'd love to get a 1-hour competition going sometime. Would you be up for that? Even an asynchronous one if we just agree to trust that people will spend 1hr max on their game.

Bundle all the entries together and call it "The Chronicles of BBD," for "Beveled Blue Diamond."
(and PS: I meant "average" and not "median" in my previous age-related comment...)
