I casually maintain a list of PC Metroidvania games in a Google Doc right here:

http://goo.gl/fBSFJ

There are 124 games on the PC tab. More on the Flash, console, and misc tabs.

There's also a few tabs open for user editing, so you're welcome to recommend games to add to the main list that I might have missed.

Thanks
- Thanks to the TDC forum as I harvested a some unknowns from here and from the front page
- Thanks to Squalid Pumpkin for http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/multi/Essays/essay-squalidpumpkin5.htm which I used to launch from.

I didn't realise there were that many just for the PC. I do want to say that I think your grading system (via comment) might be a little crudely/quickly done. Some of them are a little pejorative, and seeing that most of these games are freeware, you should be at least a little considerate when writing them. I understand your audience are not the developers, but people interested in knowing how to well-spend their time playing videogames, but there are some comments that made me raise an eyebrow.

For instance, for Alex Adventure: "Screams single person effort. Graphics and sound are awful, and the game is tolerable vs really enjoyable." This game is a perfect example of a good game without awesome graphics. It sets an incredible atmosphere, the underground level's music is amazing, and the level design is quite good. It's overall a very nice effort, but I don't get that from your description.

You're the first one to say something about this, but probably not the only one to scrunch your nose at!

There were a few more very harsh comments that I zonked prior to publishing the list around the net. I am aware that the content of that column is disagreeable in some cases. I've been leaning towards scrapping the column and replacing with a Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down instead.

I'd actually like to convert the list to something like this in the future: http://indieshmups.com/

Thanks for the feedback... now get back to work on HFA! Looks amazing and I can't wait to play it!

Glad you took it well. A rating system sounds like a good idea, as does turning it into something like that website.

And thanks for the encouragement!

Great list. Almost overwhelming actually. I'll enjoy getting through these.
The definition of Metroidvania seems to be pretty loose, though. How is Legend of Princess a Metroidvania?

You don't even have Zeliard - that's the best one!
See if you're missing any others off this list:

nim: You know, I still haven't played Legend of Princess, even though it's quite short (right?). I slapped it onto the list because it looked a little like Zelda II... I'm keeping it there to send whatever traffic possible to Konjak's site in order to ensure Iconoclasts becomes a thing.

Sketchy: I'll get it in there shortly. I'm missing a few really old titles like that one. Just added Talos V last week, which I remember fondly playing on a PC Gamer demo disc way back when.

It's only short because I believe it's unfinished. It's not a Metroidvania though, it plays out like an arcade beat 'em up. It's really cool you should try it!

Props to you, zeliards one of my main influences in making Asunder, heck I even have a slime enemy with a sword in its middle.
