Hi all
I have been itching to do something like this for a LONG time but lack the necessary skills for something so big. I have started working on a design document detailing the various player options and formulas used. I envision a team of at least 3 or 4 working on this (the more the merrier).
Members would be split up like this:
Project Lead - Me
Lead Coder - Me
Graphics Artist - Hopefully 2 or more based on the scope of the project
Music/SFX - as above, hopefully 2 or more
Another Coder
Ideally someone with Online Multiplayer coding experience would be a great addition to the team
The plan for this project is that it takes place inside 1 huge map however you can travel to other maps through certain areas. The center of the map will feature a "safe haven" consisting of market opportunities and other helpful things. I would also like to include Quests and teams/guilds/factions in this project. The world itself will feature randomly spawning NPC's of various difficulty.
It is going to be a massive project which when complete will allow you to play online with your friends.
No decision has been made yet as to what graphical style the game will be although I do think the game should feature 8 direction movements (not isometric as this would make things stupidly hard to code)
If you would like to help or just want more info let me know.
Thanks for reading and I hope someone is interested.......

I'm assuming that since you're posting this here, you are looking to make this a klik game, but I'm not sure moo is really conducive to giant maps like you're planning unless you're going for a really simple game engine. If you are planning on using a traditional language though, I'd love to help with the network coding.
If you put a million monkeys at a million keyboards, one of them will eventually write a Java program.
The rest of them will write Perl programs.

Yeah, the idea was to create the game in MMF, I have no coding experience in another language. Would you please be able to explain why Moo/Lacewing wouldn't be good enough to handle this sort of project?

Excuse me for being brief, but I'm writing this on my phone having just woken up.
Moo has a few issues. The two important ones, though, are that you need to write the server as a klik program, which to my knowledge at least, are generally not nearly optimised enough nor fast enough to correctly handle real-time input and logic, deal with lag, and provide safe connecti, and that afaik you need to send data as strings (lots of overhead). Keep in mind that I am not terribly experinced with mooso there may be ways around these limitations.
As for lacewing, to be honest I forgot avout it. I know there is a Lacewing Python library, so it may be possibly to write the server in python, but I wouldn't know the semantics. It should be possible that way though.

The rest of them will write Perl programs.
